Lawyers like to fear-monger sometimes---that's how they make their fees.  I'm curious if the lawyer also mentioned to you that he would have to sit silently during the interview, he wouldn't be allowed to answer any questions on your behalf, and he wouldn't be allowed to further explain your answers unless directly asked to by the IO.

 

Sounds like he may be out to just collect an extra fee---curious what he planning on charging you for this "service"?  

 

Is this the same lawyer who took like a month to mail out your AOS package and then refused to give you the tracking number when you were wondering if it was ever sent? (I remember your last thread about that)

Yes, the same one.  I finally got the requested info, they mail it just few days late. It was sitting is USCIS for 2 weeks before they issued the receipts.

I wasn’t planning to take a lawyer to the interiew since we have pretty easy case.

We are getting ready for my AOS  interview in few weeks. I am married to USC, who was married before. He got his GC because his ex wife was sponsored through an employeer. They’ve been married 10 years. 

When i met him, he was already divorced . Now my lawyer is saying they we might have some issues at the interview and I should definitely have him

present during the interview. Of course it cost money. 

Is there anything we should worry about? Is the  lawyer right?We’ve been married almost 6 years, two kids together.

We’ve been married over 5 years and are parents of two girls .I have a lot of evedence to prove how real the marrigage is. 

I just want to make sure that they will let me into the building if the last name on apointmemt notice is different that the one on DL.

I just got scheduled for AOS interview. I received EAD and AP a month ago and didn't have a chance to change my last name on SS# and DL yet.The applications are in my married name.

So is mandatory that I change my name on DL before the interview so it matches the interview notice?

Yesterday Igot text and an email that my interview was scheduled.  I filed on 7/16/18 so I think it super fast for my office in Chicago to have the interview already.

I read through the comments prior to responding.  Our AOS took exactly 15 days from mail to NOA date.  Granted some are quicker, some are not, but a month is a month.  FIRST off, try to be calm and polite and not yell and scream at the lawyers office, they can and will just call the cops and have you both arrested.  Ask them "has THERE check been cashed yet.?"  They should be able to look easily enough.  They should have ALWAYS gotten a tracking number, and if they say "We have it and you can not see it", is a lie.  If there are no results in a week, I would call and report the agency to your state Attorney General, and also Perhaps call a state congressman about your complaint.  And if all else fails, refile withOUT a "lawyer". YOU can do it yourself, I did and thousands other before me.  Visajourney has been a wonderful help from people who has done that, been there sort of thing.   Then after all is said and done, file small claims for 100 percent of your money back from the "lawyer".   Give it another week though.  the gov is pretty busy!  OH, and ask them "how it was sent"?  UPS,. I would never yell at them, even though I would love to make a scene :). I will be nice and ask abut the tracking and the check. If they refuse to give it to me, I wills ask for refund and my documents.

I applied for my husband's citizenship and it was a smooth process. I would fill out AOS  myself but had some problems with affidavit of support so decided to use ,,professionals"

Red flags right from the start...using their own payment, not providing a tracking number, etc. Either they're legit and dropped the ball big time and didn't send it when they say they did, or they're a scam. There's zero reason for an attorney not to provide a tracking number upon request. That's really sketchy.

It is an law office that was in business for years. Somebody actually recommend them to me.  They were very happy with the service and the price was reasonable.

Yes, I have an official receipt I paid them. I think I will go the the office tomorrow, with my husband,  and will have a nice talk with the whole staff.

I wouldn't be pushy if they were honest with us. I think they took too many clients and cannot keep up with workload.

They told me they used the tracking, however for some reason they wont give it to me or they date when it was mailed.

I'm afraid they haven't send it yet but at the same time wondering why they would hold my papers since we have such an easy case.

I paid my attorney together with his fees and he was the one mailing his check to the USCIS. That how he told me to do it so now I have no way of checking.

It's been a month already. When I talk to the law office, they are so nonchalant about the whole situation and act like I'm some kind of inpatient psycho. I'm pretty sure if I ask them to resend a whole package, they would expect me to pay for it.

My attorney mailed my AOS package a month ago and I didn't hear from USCIS. No receipt, or RFE. My attorney swears they mailed it. I called immigration yesterday and were able to talk to tier 2 officer. He check the system and has no record of my documents. He searched under name, maiden name, ss#, DOB- nothing! Would the office hold the package just like that?

I called my attorney back and they keep telling me to relax,that everything is ok but won't give me the specific date when the docs were sent  or tracking number. They just keeps saying that it is normal and that people usually wait over a month to get a NOA. I am under the impression that they might be lying to me or the immigration office lost my package. I really don't know what should I do? I paid for everything up front and I am afraid I might have to sent the package again and pay again.

I mailed my package on 7/3/18 and heard nothing from USCIS yet. It was prepared by the attorney and they are the one issuing the check so I have no way checking to see if it cashed. I believe I should've got the text/ email if not official NOA.

A friend of mine already got the biometrics appointment and she mailed on the same day. Should I be concerned? I don't want to call my lawyer and look like I'm impatient psycho

We just got an email that the oath was scheduled Whoo hoooo!

My husband had his interview today. He passed the English test but decision cannot be made. IO asked for kids birth certificates and marriage certificate. Then started to ask about his divorce and wanted to hear all details. Took the divorce papers, even though we submitted them with initial application. My husband was told that they have to look deeper in his divorce.

Hi filled under 5years rule and he didn't get his gc through marriage so we have no idea what IO got so concerned. He doesn't have kids from first  marriage so no child support.

He's been waiting 10 months  for his interview and it's crazy that he still has to wait. Very frustrating.
