If she is coming here as a resident and intends to live here then I would skip the travel agent, find another one, or buy the ticket directly from the airline. What the travel agent is suggesting is very suspicious.
Congratulations and I wish you the best.

K-1 visa holder doesn't need to have a round trip ticket. Look for another travel agent who has right knowledge. Good luck to his arrival in the states.

It all depends on when your case was completed by the NVC. If it was completed during the first two weeks of the month, the NVC tries to schedule the interview for the following month depending on the embassy's availability. If they completed it during the last two weeks of the month, they schedule the interview for the month after. Ex.: if your case was completed on 8/10, you will probably have an interview in September. If it was completed on 8/27, you will most likely have your interview in October. Again, it all depends on the embassy and a few months ago they were pushing the dates an extra month, but that doesn't appear to be the case any more.
If you have any other questions, you can ask them in the Colombia Club thread. They're easier to find that way.

    hey Joe Kwa,
if you take a look at my profile and status updates you can have some sort of idea how long our case took.
Our case was completed on June 19 and on June 27 (called NVC and DoS daily) my wife's interview was set for August 28 at Bogotá.
We were so happy that we got through the NVC phase in only 20 days but then disappointed that the interview was set 2 months later but as of today 11 days to go!!!
    Good luck!

I'm glad to see there are now four doctors instead of two. is only a matter of time until they all realize that DoS has given them carte blanche to sell vaccinations to everyone, regardless of whether they really need them or not

Does she currently have the records, or are they currently unavailable from the labor-stricken hospital ?

In lieu of the missing medical records, a civil surgeon could obtain serological antibody titer tests to determine whether the beneficiary has adequate circulating antibodies against the diseases mentioned on the medical form, and then vaccinate as necessary.
That is in essence what we are going to have to do with my wife from northern China, she has very limited vaccination records. So for the AOS process, we have appointments on Monday with a civil surgeon here in Seattle for the wife and stepson, and git 'er done in that manner. Likely not the cheapest, will require another appointment to follow-up on the blood test results. However, in reality, it is best for their health and well-being.
    YMMV
Good luck on your visa journey.

As long as there is internet you can use Tango, Viber, textfree, among other mentioned in this thread. Worst case a MagicJack would be better than .13/min.

Some of these also work on Google/Android phones, Tango even works on PC. I know RIM/BB has whatsapp, you will have to see/search for the apps in the respective phones application store.
    What type of phone?

Reading this reminds me I'm not alone. I'm glad I found this forum. It's so informative and has very understanding and sympathetic people on it. Hang in there, OP. It'll all be worth it once you get to kiss that face you get to see everyday on Skype!
My wife and I are so busy with work, and being in different time zones makes things difficult. I must say though, I'm getting pretty fit with all of the gym time I'm putting in. I think she'll be pleasantly surprised when we see each other again, assuming that isn't for a couple of months.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and suggestions. My heart is filled with gratitude and hope for all of you. I hope and I pray that everyone who reads this, in whatever stage of the process you are in, that the time passes quickly and you can hold each other soon.

    Good Evening Everyone,
I was feeling a little down today and I thought I could express my self a little on here. Seeing as most of you have found yourselves in similar situations, I thought I could write a little bit here to remind other people (and myself) that we are not alone. I am really missing my wife these days. We were married on 12/9/2011 and I have only seen her a total of 32 days since we first met in June of last year. We are in the final stages of the visa process as I just sent the actual Visa application on 8/2. I guess I'm just feeling very lonely today and missing my wife terribly. I hope anyone else out there who finds themselves in same circumstances that the process goes quickly and well for you. Wishing you all the best of luck. Goodnight and Good Luck.
