  1. I think it all depends on the benefit/service you're trying to apply for. For some thing like SSN, you're not considered non-immigrant, but for things like driving license, you might need to wait until you have something like EAD (state dependent). If it's something like entering a contest, you'll need to wait until you're an LPR.

What is it you applied for? What reason did they specifically give you for being denied it?

  2. iaia, congrats on your interview notice!!! Lots of good things going on with everyone!

My last day at work is Dec 7th. I changed it so I can work through a full pay period. I will be leaving Maryland Nov 8th. Gesi starts work tomorrow and is sooo excited! Last week he went shopping for work clothes, boots, etc. lol He didn't have anything because he came for a visit in March and never left, haha. My boss asked me to stay, said they were making changes and these would be good changes and advancement opportunities would be coming. But talking to Gesi and hearing how happy he is being around family and friends in Florida with a job...... I couldn't take that away from him. I can find a job anywhere.... good.gif

Glad to hear that you and Gesi are safe and well! Excellent news about Gesi starting his new job and that you guys will be starting a new chapter in your lives next month!

  3. You find the part on the USCIS website that lets you look at field offices and choose yours. I didn't see San Fernando on the list though. It will then give you the expected processing times for the forms they accept there: USCIS processing times

Mine was well off though. It said Atlanta was working on May 11th, then I got my interview date the next day. The data is sometimes a little behind, sometimes up to 2 months behind. ALIA raised in a recent roundtable with USCIS - seems it is a constant bone of contention between them.

Take Harpa's advise and relax. Most office say that you need to wait 4 months (120 days) before you can do anything as that tends to be the usual lead time on processing the I-485. Most people living in CA acknowledge that the 4 months can usually be a little longer, just one of those regional variances - maybe there are a lot of applicants going through the CA offices?

  4. My interview was yesterday (Thursday, November 1) at 2:15pm in Atlanta. We arrived at 1:30pm went through security in a matter of minutes and then had to wait on the first floor until it was 1:45pm (30 minutes before our appt) to check-in. After checking in, we went upstairs to wait for our number to be called. At 2:20pm a young lady called us and we went to her office to be sworn in and interviewed. She was very serious but professional. She asked for both of our passports, GA licenses, IDs, birth certificates, my I-94 and old EAD. She made a copy of our GA licenses. She then asked my husband his name, DOB, address, place of birth and parents names. She then asked the same questions to me along with my last visa and last entry date into the USA. She then asked my husband how and where we met and asked me the yes/no questions that the I-485 application asked. She asked for bonafide marriage evidence and looked through both our photos from the last 4 years and our wedding album. After this, she said we were done and she would review our file to make sure she had all the information. If she needed more information, she would send a RFE to us. If she had everything, she would approve us and explained the conditional GC. We were out of the office by 2:45pm. The interview was straight forward but I really wanted to know if we were approved on the spot. Luckily, at 5:30pm I got a text notice that I was being registered as a permeant resident :) APPROVED!

The main lessons were do not be stressed. Take all the documentation you can and remember you are in a real relationship so you have nothing to worry about. The interviewers are serious but they are just doing their jobs!

Excellent news! Great to read another positive Atlanta interview :)

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On November 2, 2012, we mailed you an appointment notice for an interview for December 3, 2012, at NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER. Please follow the instructions on the notice. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

    Wonderful!

Yeah! Good for you!!! It's getting lonely in here. I think I am the only one without an interview!

Fingers crossed you'll hear something soon :)

  5. That's fairly quick! Hopefully mine will be the same! Sorry about asking so many questions, but did you get any hard copy's of the approval or just the online updates?

There's no hard copy confirmation for the I-765, just online updates - as far as I know.

I'm happy it's quick. I'll head to the SS office the next morning after I get it to apply for my SSN. Once I have my SSN, I'll go to DDS and get my DL :)

  6. So, I have a question...

I just checked the processing times for my office, Chicago (IL) and this is what the website says

I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status May 28, 2012

However, if that office is taking longer than our processing goal to handle the form type in question, you will see the filing date (e.g., "April 10, 2003") of the last case we processed on the date the website chart was last updated. The charts are updated on or about the 15th day of each month.

They way I understand this is that they take way longer than 5 months to process and the last case was MAY 28.

If this is correct, I am happy I got my EAD/AP combo. It may take many many months for my office to process the case

The information from the website is normally 2-3 months old. I read minutes from a meeting between the ALIA and USCIS, the delay in posting information to the website was something the ALIA were concerned about and USCIS promised to work on it in the future (we shall see, eh?)

I would imagine that in reality they are working on late July/Early August now and that you should here something soon.
