StraightShooter got a reaction from Ms C in She's been here 3 weeks now...
LMAO!!
Things are going extremely well here for myself, my fiancee and my soon-to-be stepson.
They're all settled in and having a grand time. No complaints of homesickness from either of them.
It's been fun and educational for all of us too. They both just about freaked out when, on their 1st day here, we went to Wal Mart and I picked up a soft drink, opened it and gulped a bit to quench my thirst. Something completely unheard of in the Philippines I guess.
We've decided NOT to have the garden wedding that we'd been planning. Instead, we're just going to "elope" down to the county courthouse and get married there. Turns out the logistics of getting my friends/family here from several areas around the country was an issue for the working folks. And getting started sooner on the AOS process will be a boon for us as well.
Anyway, for all who are waiting with bated breath and bitten nails... it's all worth it in the end!
And keep an eye out for those really short notice, low price airfares! We got really lucky in that regard. A low price popped up and 7 hours later my fiancee was in the airport waiting to board!

StraightShooter got a reaction from bmiles62 in We are cleared for take-off!!
They're here!
My fiancee and her son landed safe and sound late last night and I got them home safely from the airport.
We went outside in my front yard this morning, sat on the patio bench, sipped coffee and watched the world wake up to the sight and sound of wild birds all over and the rabbits and squirrels running around everywhere.
Life is good.

StraightShooter got a reaction from Jamaica2009 in We are cleared for take-off!!
My fiancee just called from onboard her flight from Manila to here... we are SO excited! As she was talking, I heard the flight attendant say "we are cleared for take-off" and we had to end the call.
27 hours from now, she'll be here! Dunno if I'll be able to sleep tonight or not, but I sure have a lot of house cleaning left to do tomorrow!

Ummm... did you READ the thread? We're done. Interview passed and finished. Did you see the part where NONE of her evidence was needed?

StraightShooter got a reaction from faithinGod in Dave Seminara Article on Marriage Fraud
I've seen that article before, but really didn't like the recommendations at the end. The author wants to increase the size and scope of the government, including making it more intrusive and less flexible. Just what we need... another bureacracy that gets more power and taxpayer dollars while simultaneously saying who "they" think we should be allowed to marry. Sounds like the CFO in the Philippines. Ugh. Not for me.
Here are a few examples of the things the author wants to see in order to "help" us be with our loved ones.
Recommendations
•Eliminate Fiancé (K-1) visas. There is simply too much fraud associated with this visa category. Americans who intend to marry foreign nationals are free to do so, but making the effort to get married abroad testifies to the legitimacy and seriousness of the relationship. Couples can always have a second ceremony or reception in the United States once the foreign spouse receives his or her immigrant visa. Right, because people have unlimited time and resources to allow them to remain overseas for a month or more (in some countries) in order to get married.
•Adjudicate marriage-based immigrant visa petitions in the foreign spouse’s country of residence, with the American sponsor present. Authorize consular officers (or overseas USCIS officers) to rule on the validity of the relationships and deny fraudulent petitions. Appeals could be heard by an officer’s supervisor — with both petitioner and applicant present. Same as above.
•Create a national marriage registration database to help combat serial marriage fraud. PUHLEEZE!!!
•Eliminate the co-sponsor system for Americans filing immigrant visa petitions for spouses overseas. This means that Americans living below the poverty line would be unable to sponsor immigrants. Exceptions should be made for bona fide full-time students at the university level and young petitioners still listed as dependents on their parents’ most recent tax return. Since many, if not most of the Americans that engage in marriage fraud for cash are in a weak financial situation themselves, this move would add a difficult hurdle for would-be scam artists who want to engage in a sham marriage to a foreign national for money. So people working part time and attending school part time aren't allowed into the system even if they could get a sponsor. Right.
•Give both the State Department and USCIS significantly more resources to combat marriage fraud. Yep, let's make that government even larger and more intrusive.
•Aggressively prosecute everyone involved in marriage fraud, from those involved in personal schemes to large-scale marriage fraud rings. Penalties should include jail time for those convicted. Hey, being in an American prison could still be better than being free in some foreign countries. Might not deter as many as he thinks.

StraightShooter got a reaction from Mike Z in PLEASE HELP I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT
I'll add this... do not meet with her under any circumstances. ESPECIALLY if she "wants to make up" and have sex with you. She could set you up for a false rape report and not only get the violence provision for AOS, but get you locked up.
Be aware, be safe.
Best of luck.

That is a sweeping generalization which is not accurate.

StraightShooter got a reaction from TnJ in I guess all the ppl in the world love american, eh!
This topic is in the General Immigration section, so I don't see it as only dealing with love or spouses or fiance(e)s etc. And I think of it in terms of those folks from other countries who DO want to emigrate somewhere rather than the entire population as a whole.
Back when I was still working and in the high tech biz, we had numerous H1B visa holders from other countries. Their end goal was always to immigrate to the US. Some even took the long route and started by emigrating to Canada, getting citizenship there, then taking the next steps to get to the US. One fella I worked with was originally from Egypt, became a Canadian citizen, then got his H1B and ended up getting his US citizenship. It took him well over a decade, but he never took his eyes off the prize.
I met many such folks during my career. They weren't looking for love, but all were Coming to America, just like in the song.
