  1. Good idea zyggy seeing as I seem to have developed allergies in my new location. Must be different trees or something. I never had allergies in Canada.

These are great additions folks, thanks.

    Wooooooo

  2. Hey all, I am going back to Canada (Ontario) this weekend on my AP and I am trying to think of some cool things to bring back with me to show everyone here in the US.

After talking to my mother-in-law today, we established Nutella and ketchup chips are a must.

I don't want to spend a fortune, but can you think of anything else, small, that would be good to bring here that they don't have in the US?

Oh, add to that a coffee crisp.

I want to bring a little care package of foods they don't have. I only want to spend about $20 though.

What do you guys think are the best things??

    Thanks

  3. That's what this board is for!!! To vent frustration and turn around and write a very nice letter to them saying "I'm so sorry how could I have forgotten such an important piece"-not!

So many people get RFE's during AOS it's unreal. You'll be ok, just try to get it out quickly.

On my letter I also incuded a little "I an confident that my quick response to your RFE will not delay processing of my AP, or EAD"

    Every little bit helps!

  4. I'd do the birth certificate, and just the biographical page on the passport.

On our RFE I also included a little cover letter stating something like..

"Please find enclosed requested further evidence; I have included our co-sponsor, (name), birth certificate in addition to a copy of the passport. Should you require any further information please feel free to contact me at xxx-xxxx."

That's what I put on ours, and I also sent it back the same day we got it. I sent it priority. As you can see by the timeline, we were lucky and we were not slowed down.

As much as you'd like to put something to the effect of "here's the info that you obviously lost" probably better just to write it here a bunch of times till you feel better :)

  5. Sadly, I agree. Make a copy of the I134 you have and send it to her.

You could also fax it over and it'd be instant. That may save you some time.

All in all I don't think they are going to deny you a visa because you used the gov't approved form all the website, lol, but if you have the time to do it, do it.

You'll be fine though. Just do what works best for you. :)

  6. Wow, thanks for the killer reply. That's exactly what I needed.

So, going INTO Canada, what am I supposed to tell them?? I'm a permanent resident?? And the Canadian Customs people should be touching and doin nothing to my stuff then????

All the I94, AP, and everything else only happens on the way back in???

Editted- sorry I just reread your post and it sounds like the I94, and AP willi n fact be done on my way INTO Canada, but just to make sure it's done inside in the little office???

And that would mean going back into the US I would just show them my new I94???

I just want to be clear what happens each way.

    Thanks

  7. I have my AOS interview in just over a month and I was wondering...

We have our wedding pictures from March, but since then we haven't taken any pictures. Should we be? Should I go and snap some of us at the beach or something??? Do I need to go snap some up?

    Just wondering.

So far for the AOS interview I'll be able to get the following for evidence,

-My husband as my beneficiary for my life insurance

    -Joint checking and savings account

    -I'm on the car insurance

    -I'm on some utility bills

-Cell phone bills in both our names

-We'll both be on the lease

-Letter of "endorsement/proof" from the place I volunteer at in regards to being married

-Letter from my employer (I'm the foreign spouse)

    -Pictures from our wedding

-Cards from friends with wedding congrats

Then we'll have all the ####### the ask for too.

So, do we really need photos from march-july showing that we are in fact "together"?? My husband works 80 hrs+/week trying to support us both (gotta love that EAD), we don't have extra time for pictures and didn't even think about it.

    Thanks for your replies.

  8. Hey everyone, I'll be using my AP to go back to Ontario in a week. I was hoping someone here, who has crossed a land border can share their experience of what it is I should expect. As we know, sometimes border patrol can make mistakes, so I figure if I know what they are supposed to do, I can help!

So, I cross, and tell them what? I'm a Canadian living in US adjusting my status?

And, should they take my I94 when I cross into Canada??

On the way back, I assume they will give me a new I94.

And also, I have 2 pieces for my AP-identical. Do they keep one? Should they be stamping both? What exactly should they do? I just do NOT want to leave the border-drive 8 hours back to the US and they have forgotten something.

So, anyone?? I'm going to assume as long as I have a new I94, and 1 copy of the AP stamped I am good to go..but I loooooooove details. So any sharing of experience would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  9. I am hoping I can shed some light here.

The sealed envelope is what gets turned in at Montreal. Your copy, should you get one, can be in whatever sort of envelope.

The rules of AOS are if your medical is less than 1 yr old at the time of your interview, then you don't need another one.

Having said that, there are still people who get RFE'd for a medical even if it's still valid.

The vaccination sypplement is a DEFINITE need to have a copy. Once you arrive in the US, you will need to send a completed "vaccination supplement" with your AOS as I am sure you have all read. This is where it gets grey. Some people send in a copy of theirs from their home country, some send in nothing, and some/most go to a civil surgeon in their area (in the US) and get a vaccination supplement completed.

So, you take your copy from Canada that you got, go find a Dr here that does the supplement, and get it transferred to the "US Immigration" one. Why they do this, I don't know. Probably so their vaccination supplements all look 1 way instead of a billion different ways from different countries.

Myself, I got a copy of my vaccination supplement, but not the medical. I took that vaccination supplement, found a civil surgeon here, paid $60 and voila, a new USA vaccination supplement. I also got a copy of this supplement too! So, now I have my old one from Canada and my new one from the US.

My AOS interview is end of July, so my medical will still be valid.

Did I help? If you can get a copy of your medical I say go for it, but it's imperative you have a copy of your vaccination supplement. Get it.

  10. I was in exactly the same situation. We married 3-4 weeks after I arrived. I waited the 2 weeks and went and applied for my SSN with my maiden name.

My suggestion would be to apply withy our maiden name first, then get it changed. The reason being that there can be a hassle with trying to get your SSN in your married name and many folks can attest to that.

This way you can go in after 2 weeks, apply with no hassles, and get the card. Then go back and change your name afterwards. Yes it's an extra step, but there are many offices that have given people hassles here with the whole married name thing.

Your marriage cert. must also have certain criteria listed on it in order to get the name change, such as your date of birth.

MDYoung will probably post further on this but my advice is get it in your maiden name first just to have it in your hands. With an SSN you are 1 step closer.

    That's my 2 cents.

  11. So, I get a letter today from USCIS. I am thinking it's my EAD since it was approved on the 13th.

    Nope, it's our interview letter!!!!

    July 27th in Boston. Wooooooooo.

It has a crapload of things to bring from the checklist it gives you, but most are common sense or we have already submitted. It does say medical, but then (unless already submitted). Mine was done last Novemeber so I assume I am going to be ok there.

And by the way, our online status was never changed, not even touched!!! So, this letter was a complete surprise.

Another odd thing I am hoping someone can help with is when my EAD was approved it was the "we sent you a new card in the mail" etc etc. But today I see I have 3 more emails from CRIS saying on June 15th (2 days later) I was approved for my EAD and they have sent an approval notice.

Now, if they tell me I was approved and they sent a card on the 13th, why would they touched my case and update it to say I was approved on the 15th??? Odd?? I guess I don't really care as long as I get the stinkin EAD card.

So, woooooooooooo for my interview. And after all that RFE #######, you guys were right, we were ok. So, they must have just wanted his 2005 tax return.

    :dance::dance:

I am sure I will post my questions before I get to the interview, but I also want to thank everyone who has helped me so far. The guidance and advice here is worth more than any lawyer could ever charge.

So, thanks to all and I hope I can help others down the line.

Woooooooooooo, green card here I come!!!:dance:

  12. Sometimes, and I don't know about where you live, you can call them and tell them you will come to THEM to pick it up if you need it that day.

For instance, it may be in a proecssing station close to you waiting for completion of the delivery, however you may be able to just go to their processing station and get it.

My friend did that here in Toronto. She drove about an hour away to Canada Posts big distribution centre because she needed that piece of mail that day. They did it for her no prob.

I'd inquire as to that if you are really worried.

I'm sure it'll be there though. Have faith!
