Shocker. Seems alot of people depend on unnecessary govt. spending for their income. (I'm not talking about social security) Not surprising it would be unpopular being told that the golden goose ran out of eggs.

i don't watch msnbc dear, i don't pay for cable.
So you're stealing it then?

We the people are supposed to own the government. It's time we did so. Perhaps no incumbents will get my vote.
No matter. The incumbent that loses the election will soon be hired at some D.C. lobbying firm, where he'll show up with a bag full of money at the congressional office of the new guy, and explain how things work. It's all very banana Republic, just a bit more sophisticated.

websites are a means to an end function. obtaining health insurance is the goal - not website innovation. i don't give two sh*ts about the government running websites. i do care about folks getting health care coverage. big picture, gotta focus on the big picture.
not sure if you were aware, websites cost money to manage and operate. humans are behind the money and the operating. the internet is not as magical as you seem to believe.
i don't even work for the government and yet the shutdown is affecting my job and business operations. the ttb website is a huge part of my job. and that mother is gone, shut down. know why? actual people review the applications that i submit on the ttb website.
My point is that the government can't even get their own financial house in order, and now we're going to turn this over to them? I don't know how accurate the $634 million number is in this thread title, but that seems like an awful lot of money to get a website up and running. I'm getting flashbacks to the days of $400 hammers and $200 toilet seats. Those are mid 80s dollars.

lucky as opposed to folks who would otherwise have no healthcare at all? i don't understand your beef.
I think it's a little odd for the govt.to come out and say "You have to buy heathcare if you don't currently have it" And then say "come buy it here from this exchange that doesn't work." Call me crazy, but I have a hard time expecting anything positive from a government that has a debt running 100% of the entire economic output of the country for one year. Maybe they should get that minor detail worked out before they start running websites for healthcare. It's a simple 2nd grade level concept. Don't spend more than you make. They haven't got that down, and you want them to run websites?
Not sure if you noticed, but one of the main reasons to have a website is that you don't need a human on the other end. Yet, when this "shutdown" happened, many govt. websites magically stopped working. Kinda makes you wonder if they have this whole internet thing figured out yet.

i don't need to go to the federal health care website. i've already got insurance through my employer.
indeed, tell me more about this lack of competition and how its dismantling our current wonderous healthcare system..
So then you're not relying on the govt. to sign up for your healthcare. Congratulations! You're on one of the lucky ones.
-
how is there no competition?
and what does that have to do with a subpar website?
just trying to make use of all those fear mongering soundbites that have been drilled into your head for years now?
Try going to the other Federal health care website. Ohh wait. There isn't one.
Nice use of "fear-mongering" Talk about soundbites.

This is what happens when the Politburo makes all the decisions. No competition equals $hit service. Always been that way, and it will always be that way.

New York (CNN) -- A man accused in a brutal Union Square beating that resulted in the victim's death five days later has been indicted on state hate crime charges.
The suspect, who is black, was heard making statements similar to "I'm going to punch the first white man I see," New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said at the time.
Lashawn Marten faces four charges in the September 4 incident, according to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. The indictment was filed Tuesday.
Marten is accused of beating Jeffrey Babbitt, 62, who was pronounced dead five days later.
Marten allegedly struck Babbitt, who is white, so hard that bystanders could hear the force of his head hitting the cement. Two other men were assaulted in the attack as they tried to help Babbitt, police said.
The grand jury heard evidence by the NYPD's hate crimes task force.
Marten was ordered to undergo a psychiatric exam to determine whether he is fit to stand trial, according to prosecutors.
Calls to Marten's attorney on Wednesday were not immediately returned to CNN.
But Michael Croce in September said a manslaughter charge "requires far more on the part of the prosecution to prove his intent to inflict that type of injury. They must show intent to cause serious injury.... It needs to be explored more as to whether they have enough evidence to prove intent to kill based on one punch."
The charges against Marten are manslaughter in the first degree as a hate crime; manslaughter in the second degree as a hate crime; assault in the second degree as a hate crime; and an attempt to commit the crime of assault in the second degree as a hate crime.
Police said Marten has also gone by the name Martin Redrick.
He initially faced three counts of assault before the allegations were upgraded in the indictment.
Robert Pizzimenti, a neighbor of Babbitt's, last month described him as "a lovable guy."
"He was the kind of guy who always was doing favors for people. If you needed a ride to an appointment, you could call Jeff and he'd say, 'Yeah, I'll take you,'" Pizzimenti said.

Although I think hate crime laws aren't needed, since a crime is a crime, I suppose it good that they are used no matter the race of the suspect.

Happens in the US too.
Sure it does. Although I don't think I've seen an entire sub-culture here where the goal is to separate foreigners from as much money as they can, as quickly as possible. Granted nobody is putting a gun to these guys heads. I actually fault the foreigner more than I do the Thai woman. Of course these are mostly bar girls running these scams.
It reminds of that story. A scorpion asks a frog to ride across a river on the on the frogs back. The frog says no way, you'll sting me. The scorpion says no I wont. The frog agrees, and half way across the river the scorpion starts singing the hell out of the frog. The frog says, "why did you do that? Now we'll both drown." The Scorpion says, "I can't help it. It's my nature. I'm a Scorpion"

My wife didn't drive the first 3 years she was here. Her getting a drivers license has dropped my shopping trips to almost zero. I wish I did it sooner

If your wife drags you to Walmart with three folders of coupons. Just sit in Subway and hope your battery does not give out
Can she drive?

why don't you tell us when the debt ceiling was raised and congress didn't take advantage of that higher ceiling?
Good luck. He's worse than Carville when it comes to facts. He was trying to tell me that Nixon and Reagan gave away free cell phones the other day.

I suggest the OP read this before moving forward:
Greetings from....yes...Pattaya....Two ladies scammed me, lesson learned. Putting a house in her name isn't exactly smart but it's only money.
Intelligent questions for any Americans out there who have returned to the U.S.A. beaten men.
If you only have a Thai drivers liscense, your USA one having expired and unable to renew same online combined with no address in the U.S.A, can you rent a car at major airports? without a credit card? Valid passport and some cash, just no "home" address cause "I ain't got no home". Example: Arrive at LAX and rent a mini-van or camper?
Where do you get the free health care advertised for those with no income?
Can you qualify for food stamps and/or welfare(cash) and housing if you have no income history? If yes, where and what sort of time laspe is involved?
To make a long story short, she had a Thai boyfriend the entire time we were together and admitted it when I caught or shall we say stumbled upon them in a short time motel over across 3rd road. At least it was a quick and easy parting of ways and money. It was the motorcycle I'd bought her for her birthday parked behind the curtain which for some reason made matters seem very sad and realistic at the same time.Source:

Federal Budget doubles in 10 years
in Current Events and Hot Social Topics

The U.S. Federal budget doubled between 2000 and 2010. I can't think of any good reason the budget should double in 10 years. From the data above, it looks like it's been at least stable in the last 4 years. Looks like Bush liked to spend other people's money, although Obama did jack it up .5 trillion between 2009 and 2010.
