If the POE officer asks who you are going to visit and if you have family in the US you will have to tell them the truth. When they hear you're married to a USC, that's when you might be denied.
I would strongly recommend you bring your NOAs and your interview confirmation letter to prove you're doing the immigration process the right to ease any thought they might have of you trying to immigrate illegally. Also make sure you are not taking more stuff than the length of your stay does require. That being said, if your interview was ages ago, you should get your visa shortly, why not wait for it?
You can always ask the custom officers to be rescheduled on a fly back to Canada but it's not guaranteed. They won't make travel arrangements for you, they will just call the airline company you did business with and tell them they need to make room for you on their next flight to where you came from. If the airline you're using to fly to the US doesn't fly from the that airport to Canada, your hopes are not high they will accommodate you :/

I received my SS number this morning and my card has been mailed to me.
Thank you everyone for being so helpful (especially you, I Quit)!
-
I concur with JeannieL. I had a name mismatch issue with my SS application and after going in twice I was told it would take up to 3 months to clear it. Needless to say I was upset and couldn't believe it would take that long to type my name again in their system...
I wrote an email at http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/app/ask and a supervisor handle and cleared my request in less than 1 week. I just got my SS number this morning

Ok I'm not sure, if I need to bring my old forms with me from pkt3. I only filled them out once and never printed 2 copies do I really need to bring
DS-156K, DS-156, DS-160, DS-230 ???
Need more info. Bring them where? Your interview for a K1 visa? Please be more specific if you want people to help you out.
I brought ALL my paperwork (current and previous) to my K-1 interview. They asked for nothing else than what is listed on the Packet 4 letter but both our letters of intent to marry. Content is listed here : http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/content/content.asp?section=visas&document=visa_pkt4
Make copies of everything you send. Now and later for your AOS.

That's why I have said about a thousand times, don't worry about the questions of the Form SS-5. They will enter everything into the computer based on the evidence provided and the answers to the questions they ask. The Form SS-5 is basically only needed anymore for applications that get mailed in.
Wow, just wow. I would highly recommend using I Quit's tip and email SSA when your local office is acting up.
I filed an e-request yesterday afternoon and they called me for a follow-up 5 minutes ago (and the guy had already looked into it)!!! He said my local SSA office had an extra verification step to do, which they didn't and it's probably why my application is stalling.
To be followed...

Additional processing is rare for Canadians. When I interviewed at Vancouver in 2009, I was able to pick mine up the next day. I understand that that is much rarer now, but from what I understand, they're pretty fast. You should have it within a week or two, I would think.
Wow I see Montreal sped up. Good thing!
-
When your case is considered incomplete at the time of the interview they give you a sheet which explains how to use DHL to send in the missing piece. That sheet also explains it will take them an extra 4 to 6 weeks to process any evidence received by mail. If your husband did not get that piece of paper I would assume they are not requesting it.
You could call DHS to see how your case was updated since your interview. When the consulate requests documents, they can access that in the database. You will need your MTL00000000 number.
-
Thanks, Anh. I'm hoping that since the process has been very smooth so far, that it will be a few days to a few weeks. I can live with either.
The trend with Montreal in the last 3 months has been 2 to 4 weeks. That's when you would get your passport back after the interview should your case be complete at the time of your interview.
I have no idea about Vancouver's timeline.
You would have much more success posting this in the Canadian regional forum.

If you want to know what is going on with your SSN application, send an e-mail to SSA:
http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/app/ask
Be sure to say you have K-1 status and include your phone number. If you have the application reference number, send that too.
Thank you I Quit, as ever you are very helpful and knowledgeable!
Tip : for security reasons the form doesn't let you send in your request with your application referral number because it won't send the filed web form with anything that looks like a SSN. Just add 1 space within the number and it'll go through.

We got married on Saturday.
First of, congratulations on your wedding
I hope they speed up the process for you JeannieL!
Is the 60 days to transfer license a Canadian or State law?

SSN saga continues for me...
I went back to my local SSN office today. 4 weeks after I applied for my card, they're still handling what they call a name mismatch. Does it really take that long? When I was first in 4 weeks ago, I was told they process it up to 4 weeks. Now that the 4 weeks are gone, I was told (by a different clerk) it can take up to 3 months. They won't disclose which part of my name is allegedly mismatched.
My name does have an accented "e" which does not show on my US paperwork, and a USCIS NOA does contain a middle name that shows on my birth certificate which I do not use or have on neither my I-94 and my Canadian passport.
So I am wondering : is there anything I can do but call and show up often to get an update? I can't really fix this with a name change until they actually assign me a SS number, correct?
-
Should I just wait until I'm for real moving there to take that stuff over?
It's always up to the custom officers. If it looks like you have immigrant intent or if anything looks suspicious they will turn you around. Be aware US Customs does not allowed you to start importing your belongings before you actually move to the US with your issued visa. You will then have 10 years to do so.
-
If they do ask about medical stuff at the interview, I want to make sure I get a note from my doctor to bring to the interview explaining that it's probably nothing.
Thanks!
As Inky said, just give them the sealed package. Only question you might be asked at the interview are in the line of your relationship with your fiancé and if they do ask them, it'll be pretty basic
Good luck!.

My wife received her EAD/AP "combination card". It says that now they do combination cards with are both EAD/AP. However, it does state that it does not guarantee admission. We are currently in the process of AOS. Does this mean that if we travel abroad )let's say Mexico, they may refuse admission back??
I hope someone more knowledgeable can answer this but it might just be like the immigration visas. My K-1 came with the exact same warning.
From what I understand no visa is ever a guarantee of admission, but she is allowed to and they would need major reason to deny her (like if she was carrying drugs across the border).

How much time should we allow between flights for K-1 Questions and review of packet by Immigration?
You can read reviews on your POE in the Reviews/USCIS & POE section. It took me 15 min, it took others hours you never know. Fly in the morning and you'll save the day's backlog. Either way plan for 4 hours at your POE and you'll be fine.

You might have more chance posting this in the Philippines regional forum.

After all that...I just got my DHL email to say that my passport is on it's way!!! Woohoo! Thanks to all of you that eased my mind, hearing those dreaded words really worried me.
Happy for you, you must be pretty relieved now
-
When I was waiting for my visa to be issued early June, I would call DOS every other day. Depending who I was on the line with, they would sometime tell me I was in AP, and sometimes that the case was pending.
Don't worry there is most likely nothing wrong with your case
-
What info do you need when calling DOS? Passport number? Case number???
Tell the person online you want an update on your visa and they will ask for your MTL0000000000 number. Have that in hand and they might ask your name, date of birth and your fiance's. That's it
-
So, we basically mail the birth certificate to "U.S. Consulate General - IV Unit"(P.O. Box 847, Champlain, NY 12919-0847) with our Case number, our address, our phone numbers and emails?
If it's anything like a delayed medical, you have to mail it yourself via DHL they won't do it for you. First you obtain the missing piece, then you mail it through DHL.
You have to provide a cover letter with your MTL00000000 number, your ID referral number (found in your CSC profile online) and address it to the IV Unit Department. Its all on the flyer they gave when they explained you would have to complete your application by mail
Bad news is they've very slow with anything mailed and once they get it, it should take them 4-6 weeks to process it.
-
When I booked my interview online it made me pick which was the closest DHL location to me and I did, is there anything else that needs to be done for DHL before my interview?
Nope. Nothing else to do. You can double check if that the location you picked by login into your CSC account.
-
I used DHL since there's an office 15 minutes from my house. It's free to send with them since they have a deal with the embassy. Now that the strike is over Canada Post is probably just as good. I assume the stuff on the website is sufficient, though based on my question I might not be the best person to ask if "nothing else should be included".
You could use any mail service to send them your Packet 3. DHL is used by the consulate to mail your passport and visa after issuance. The only moment you have to use DHL is when you have to mail in more paperwork after your interview. They will then only accept DHL.

Our packet was mailed on July 7, received on July 9
What happens if I get denied at border as IR-1 is pending?

Sorry to say you don't seem to have a very strong case. Not being able to prove you'll be leaving the country when you said you would is a big bright waving red flag. You have a letter saying your visa has not been granted yet. You have immigrant intent because you applied for an immigrant visa. Your wife is currently in the US.
If you had a car rental already set up to drive to Canada and you could prove that, that'd be good. Remember the basic principle : they don't have to let you in. You have to prove you will be leaving the US because you are coming in as a visitor. If they think you're trying to overrun your visa and intent to not leave the US, they will unfortunately deny you entry. And if so I'm pretty confident Uncle Sam is not footing the bill.
