Social Security Card

I took my K1 beneficiary to get her Social Security Card yesterday via walk in. She arrived in the US February 16th. All we needed was her passport/visa and her I-94. Anyone running into difficulties, just go to a different office where they know what they are doing. After research here and elsewhere, it seems it is easier to get SSN upon arrival and then change the name following marriage so as to not run into difficulties with the name on the marriage cert not matching Visa/Passport. At any rate, we were in and out in less than 30 minutes. Bloomington, Indiana.

God speed to all

Co-Sponsor allowed for K-1 Fiancee for HCMC Consulate?

Hi,

I've been trying to figure out if a co-sponsor is accepted or not at the HCMC Consulate. I have heard that they are denying some applicants using a co-sponsor while allowing certain others. I lost my job of 2 years last year (end of April 2023), but have worked there for 2 years which means I have 2 years (2022 and 2023) of tax returns. I used my severance pay and my time-off to visit my girlfriend (now-fiancee) for the rest of the year and am now in the midst of interviews to find a new job. I made well above the federal poverty guidelines in 2023 due to my severance package from the layoff. The job market is currently tough in California but I am trying my best. Does anyone know if HCMC Consulate will allow a co-sponsor even if I may be able to land a new job soon? (Trying to stay on the safer side).

Thank you!

Son Received 10-Year Green Card 6 Months After U.S. Passport

My wife and her son were permanent residents, but when my wife became a U.S. citizen, her son acquired citizenship through her and received his U.S. passport 6 months ago. Last week, his long-overdue 10-year green card arrived. I called USCIS today to ask what we do with the card and the representative only scheduled me for a "non-urgent" return email or call in 30 days. She added that I may have to call back and submit a new 30-day request when the deadline passes.

I found a couple very old posts saying that USCIS "should be dead to us" now that my wife and her son are citizens. Since USCIS was very strict about having the cards returned at the citizenship swearing in ceremony, do we need to return this to someone or simply throw it out?

Thanks - Jason

I-942 Questions

Working on the I-942 for my wife's N400 and have a few questions. I own a small business, in case that is important.

  1. The instructions say to put in the number from line 37 of the 1040 form which they say is the adjusted gross income, but that is not the line for the adjusted gross income on the 2022 1040 the tax preparer used. The adjusted gross income is on line 11. Do I just put on the number from line 11 (which is listed on the form as the adjusted gross income)? Or the number from line 37 (which is the amount owed in taxes)?

  2. For the tax forms to send, should I just send the entire packet (1040, schedules 1, 2, 3, C, S, SE, Education Credits, 8995 Business Deductions, 8867, 8962, 4562, 8879, etc.) or just the 1040, or some subset of that tax paperwork?

  3. Should I send a check with the I-942 and N-400 (the instructions do not say to send the check, or to not send the check, so it is unclear to me)?
