Hi, I am currently working as a US Gov employee in South Korea. My wife and step children were recently issued the I551 temp visa s in their passports. I understand most of the implications that affect her green card status while residing with me here but I am confused if they are required to enter the US to start the green card issue process. I have already payed the immigration fee and the interviewer at the consulate was fully aware of my status here and that I would not depart for a few years. Should I contact USCIS to make sure they are aware of my current situation and not to expect the family members to enter the US till the end of my tour here? Will any of this delay the issuance of green cards? TIA Elliott&Dora

My husband and stepson went to their interview at the embassy in Bogota, Colombia on 7/6/23. Colombia is now implementing a new procedure at each interview where the applicant's name is matched to known ex-guerrilla members in Colombia. If there is a match, the applicant is told that their visa is approved but pending issue until the applicant proves they are not the person who matched their name. This happened to my stepson during their interview. After the interview they had to send an email to a government agency requesting a special document be forwarded to the embassy stating my stepson is not the person he matched names with. We received a confirmation from the government agency that they received our request but there is no way to follow up or check status (they never answer their phones or respond to email inquiries) - the only way we're going to know this document went to the embassy is when they issue the visa (they kept his passport). Has anyone going through the embassy in Colombia had this same experience? If so, how long did it take to get resolved?

Well we waited 2 years so far. Another wait coming up I am afraid. The embassy wanted a divorce decree from 25 years ago. I had submitted a divorce stipulation which looks like a decree. The NVC accepted all my documents. They kept my wife's passport and told me to send in the decree. I called the clerk of court and they promptly sent me the decree. They said to use a special DHL that will send it free. So I took the decree in an envelope. The clerk said there was no authorization. I told them I would pay for it. They said no. That is not possible. So I went to another DHL and sent it to the consular section for visas. I don't know how long a delay this will be. Anybody run into this problem?
