US Immigration from Brazil

I m probably just looking for some validation here. We had our AOS interview and learned at the end that biometrics was unable to get my wife s fingerprints twice. We now have to get certified copies of police certificates from every place that she s lived in the past 5 years. The RFE states in bold letters that the documents must be certified original or certified copies. It also specifically calls out Brazil and the location where we now live as locations that she has lived in the past 5 years.

The police certificate in Brazil is obtained online. We still have a copy of the one that we submitted at (and was accepted by) the consulate in Brazil for her K1. Obviously, it doesn t have a stamp or a seal since it s obtained online, but it does have a digital signature that can authenticated. It is still valid since it s within the 2 year period (and she hasn t returned to Brazil).

The US Department of State specifically lists certified copies as not being available in Brazil (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Brazil.html). Am I overthinking this? I should be safe to include the police certificate from the K1?

Hi. I'm not sure what to put in the current legal name field of the n-400. In Brazil the mother's maiden name can be considered a middle name or first last name. On my birth certificate the name is just written on one line, with nothing saying what the middle name is and what the last name is. Previously Brazilian passports put the mother's maiden name in the first names field, but then they changed it to be in the last names field. Consequently, on my Brazilian passport, my last name is listed with two words: first my mother's maiden name, which I consider to be my middle name, and then what I consider to be my last name. I had thought I would just ask for a name change in my n-400 but that is not an option at my field office apparently.

Here is an example of what is going on:

Birth certificate: Name: John Jacob Smith

Brazilian passport: First name(s): John; Last name(s): Jacob Smith

Green Card (they had to go by name as written on passport): Surname: Jacob Smith; Given name: John

What I would like on my US passport/future documents in US: First name: John; Middle name: Jacob; Last name: Smith

On the n-400, does it make sense to write my current legal name as First name: John; Middle name: Jacob; Last name(s): Smith? Obviously I would then also write Surname: Jacob Smith; Given name: John in the field about writing my name exactly as it appears on my Green Card. I am trying to avoid having to go through an annoying and expensive name changing process after getting my citizenship since I consider this to be one way of writing my legal name in my home country.

My top priority is to not cause delays and get my citizenship as soon as possible. I am pretty sure everyone here will just advise me to write my current legal name as it is on my Green Card, which is what I have used as my legal name in the US, and which is also considered my legal name in Brazil (even though Brazil would *also* consider the version with Jacob as my middle name to be my legal name). I'm sure it is safe to write my current legal name as it is written on my passport/Green Card since that also matches my birth certificate, but it is so annoying to have to go by this hard-to-pronounce two-word last name. Maybe another Brazilian has gone through something similar. I think most people will say it is safest to just change my name after naturalization in order to avoid delays, but let's see.

I am submitting an I-130 for my spouse (also my beneficiary) and I'm stuck on a couple of confusing questions.

First, we currently live together. It is our first time living together. So, the question "Where did you and your spouse last live together? If filing for your spouse, provide the last address at which you physically lived together. If you never lived together, type "Never lived together" in Address line 1."

We've applied for the I-130 on August 1st 2022. I just found out that our service center is not what was on the confirmation paper that they sent out but is actually the Vermont Service Center. We were basing our timelines on the Nebraska Service Center and now have had to change gears to the Vermont timelines. I graduate college in Spring of 2024 and would really like my husband to be there to see me walk and be able to spend some time with my family in the U.S. celebrating my achievement. Based on the timelines here and from what I've seen on Reddit, we probably won't have his visa ready to go by the time I graduate, or it will be very close.

So now my question, is it possible to apply for a tourist visa for him to come to the U.S. for a couple of months WHILE the I-130 is processing? Would he even be approved at the time of the B2 visa interview? Would the embassy officials think it's suspicious and that he's going to overstay the B2 visa? Has anyone else applied for a tourist visa and gone to visit while the I-130 was processing?
