Got my K-1 visa approved BUT....

visa is in my passport from today,an i had a yellow envelope from them too hand into immigration

The thing is,im IN the states already on a I-94.(I sent my passport to US Embassy in the UK as they needed more docs after the interview)

I can get my package/passprt sent to me here in the US,,but HOw will i activate the K-1 without coming in through an airport??

I cant afford to fly to Uk and back again......

I'm interested in the answer to this as well. One of the things my fiancee and I are considering is that she enters on a B-2 for a while and plans whatever wedding she wants, then fly home (overseas) to re-enter with a K-1... If she can transfer to the K-1 without leaving, it would save us a couple plane tickets...

I do believe you'll need to activate it one way or another, and that means coming through a point of entry.

It doesn't have to be an airport.

Do you live near the Canadian or Mexican border? Feel like taking a drive?

Otherwise, you could take a quick flight to a foreign city close to where you are in the US -- again, either in Mexico or Canada, or some random island of the Caribbean... That'd be cheaper and faster than going all the way back to the UK.

Regardless, I do believe you have to exit and re-enter the US somehow -- not because I know so, but because I've never heard otherwise. Pursuant to that, it would probably be better to wait for other people to post before taking my word for it. Certainly the K-1 is not really intended for people in your specific situation.

That's a good point. The Canadian border isn't far away... I wonder if she can legally enter Canada. I think she still has a valid visitor visa to Canada....

Yeah, of course you should make sure you can, in fact, enter those two countries before attempting to do that. It shouldn't be a problem for someone with a United Kingdom passport and my answer was based on that.

Any POE is fine....be it in your fiance's country, Mexico, Canada...airport entry not required.

Entry is the key.. You must enter using the K-1.

Some airports allow deferred entry. It's a way to activate a visa when you're here on another one. I don't have a list handy (Boston's airport does it), but that's what you're looking for. That, or take a short hop to Mexico or Canada.
