Ok, so he didn't quite say that. This is what he did say:

He also rejected calls for mass deportation.

'How do you do this logistically?' he asked. 'How does that work? You send 12 million people back. It would cost $500 billion. Who`s going to pay for that? I mean, this is ludicrous to think this way.'

http://news.monstersandcritics.com/northam..._citizenship%60

Now, 500 billion / 12 million = 41,666.6667

So he's saying deporting illegal immigrants will cost over $40K PER PERSON.

What do you all think about this statement? Is deportation really that expensive?

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

I don't think the illegals were spending that kind of money to sneak through the border.

The moron also suggests closing the borders to ALL immigrants, not just illegal ones, but ALL! from EVERYWHERE.

I dont see a president seat in his future.

And i dont see how deporting a single person would cost $40K, unless he was pocketing $39K to help with the deportation.

You really want your taxes to rise so you can pay for this? I dont. Im sure they can do this cheaply, without everyone else in the governement finacially gaining from this. And thats where the money is really going. Government POCKETS.

I dont see a president seat in his future.

Me neither, considering he's constitutionally barred from ascending to the office. ;)

It was hypothetical :D

Well since that number includes 1 to 1.5 million that are here legally going through AOS etc maybe he's counting the number of lawsuits for deporting people here that are actually in LEGAL status

...the “Unauthorized”?

Not “Legal” or Non-Immigrants

Overstays (25–40%) & EWIs

“Quasi-”Legals, including:

a. TPS & DED (esp. El Salvador, Nicaragua)

b. NCARA & ABC beneficiaries

c. Asylum Applicants

d. Adjustment Applicants (incl. K, V visas)

e. 245(i) Beneficiaries

Overlapping Categories

Probably ~1–1.5 Million “Quasi”

Source - Unauthorized Migrants: Numbers and Characteristics

Since this is the source of that 11 - 12 million number we keep hearing about it's logical to consider this an accurate source for the other numbers included

I think it's part of the BS campaign to bring about the amnesty that politicians and profiteers (kinda the same, really) want.

The average cost of the legal process for deportation might well run into that sort of cost.

That said, I'm not sure I see what he's getting at - because its expensive we shouldn't do anything? Strange reasoning..
