The month is still young, but I thought I would create a January I-130 thread where we can give each other support, chart our progress, etc.

I just sent my I-130 today by Express Mail.

Any other January filers? Stand up and be counted!!!

Hi, yes, I too have just embarked upon this horrible process. I mailed my I-130 on Jan. 7 by FedEx. It was received and signed for 2 days later (the FedEx planes did not leave for Chicago on 1/7!). That is all I know for now.

I have done so much research on this - in fact, the lawyer I paid to look over my paperwork cut his price in half because he said I had done everything perfectly! - but even since then I have discovered so many things that could have been done differently.

For example, I just learned today that you should put your photos in a plastic bag. Didn't do that. Didn't photocopy the *back* of my birth certificate either - there is nothing on it!

And someone on this forum was saying that you could file the I-130 and the I-129 TOGETHER! Every other source I have seen plus the lawyers I spoke with all said you had to wait for the receipt of the I-130 to file the I-129. AARGH - it is frustrating that no matter how much research I do, there is always something new about this process.

Just trying to keep a sense of humor about it all.

Thank you for starting this thread! I had just logged on to do the same. I think we are going to need all the support we can get!

Cheers - and I look forward to getting to know you and others in the same boat over the next 6... 9... 12? months,

B.B.

Yes, I was thinking also of filing I-130 and I-129F together, assumed that's what everybody was doing now but on the advice of pushbrk(who seems to really know his stuff) and others decided to wait until the NOA1 for the I-130 or at least until the check clears. Didn't want to run the risk of having the whole package sent back. I might just file for CR-1 because the way I-130s are bogged down now there doesn't seem to be any time advantage to the K-3 and we would have to do AOS when he gets here, not to mention he can't work until GC/EAD which could take 6 months... :o So for us personally(VMMV) I think the prudent thing is to just be patient and wait. The main timing issue is I want to be in KTM for his interview but if it ends up being a year from now then it will be possible - already asked my boss..

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi everyone,

My husband and I filed I-130 on 01/18 and our I-130 was received at the Chicago Lock Box on 01/21.

And we are now "patiently" waiting for our NOA1. Hopefully it won't be too long.

We thought of going through the K3 process and now we are focussing on CR-1/IR-1 instead. The timeline between K3 and CR-1/IR-1 is almost the same. K3 used to be faster but not with all the backlog. And also, with CR-1/IR-1, there won't be any AOS and I will have my green card when I enter USA. On top of that, I would be able to work straightaway upon my entry.

Thought of hiring a lawyer before we found VJ, we filed on our own with the guidance of so many experienced members. This site is a blessing. Do check out the "Guides" link as it contains many instructions and tips.

Good luck everyone and I do hope that we will reunite with our other half in no time. This will be a long process but knowing so many of "us" out there make it a little easier.

See you guys around!

My husband called customer service to inquire about when to expect the receipt and they told him that he should wait up to 15 weeks to get it.They just told him what's already written on their website.I hope it doesn't take that long because we haven't filed 129F yet and we are not sure what to do next.If it takes that long for NOA1to arrives then there is no point in filing 129F.Well, we'll just have to wait and see.Good luck to all of you guys at your journeys.

Mailed I130 on 15th and it was received in the Tx processing center on the 18th. This is a resubmittal after making a mistake on signatures on the 1st submittal. It took 2 months to get the submittal back with the USCIS checklist indicating the reason it was rejected.

The check has not been cashed as of today, January 28th, 2008.

Great information - they are almost caught up! That's some small bit of encouragement.

But what do to once that receipt comes??? Is anyone who was going to try the K-3 route now reconsidering, based on the recent updates? [The updates being that: 1) The K-3 is *possibly* not even being honored any more and 2) it *could* even slow down the I-130 processing, even though they are the ones who *might* cancel the K-3 portion .... This new possibility seems to only affect those who of us who filed after the fee increases.]

I HATE that this is so arbitrary and we are all wasting so much time trying to guess what the procedures are.

I was planning to go K-3, as an extra $1010 is nothing compared to having to wait more months, but now I'm not sure what to do. Maybe I'll stick it out for the CR.

Anyone else having second thoughts on sending the I-129F?
