Choice of Agent Form Barcode???

We received our DS-3032 (Choice of Agent form) last week, I filled it out and UPS'd it to NVC.

No problem.

Except...today I was looking at James' Shortcuts and had a look at the DS-3032 form that's downloadable at that section.

On that form there is a box containing a sentence at the top which says 'Place Case Barcode Strip Here Before Mailing to the National Visa Center'.

I don't remember seeing that on the version of the DS-3032 that I sent to NVC. I wasn't even aware our case had a barcode!

To me, a UK person, a barcode is something with vertical lines topped by numbers that appears on products.

But in this context of visas and VJ, does 'barcode' simply mean case number?

In which case I probably did fill in the form correctly. I sent a photocopy to my spouse so I don't have a copy to hand to check. It seems that the DS-3032 I was sent by NVC differs slightly from the one in the James shortcuts section. Either that or I didn't see that strip at the top.

Can anyone shed some light? :(

I just got my ds-3032 from NVC and compared it with a copy that I generated and everything was perfect except the bar code from james shortcuts was a little smaller but i dont think it will matter much cause we emailed our choice.

Thanks for your reply. I will get my husband to check it when he receives the photocopy I sent him. I guess if I have missed out that bit I can always download a form and UPS it back pronto. Will lose about a week to ten days, which could be worse.

The trouble with emailing, isn't it that you have to say you didn't get the form? Was a bit uncomfortable with saying we didn't get the form when we did - felt better just sticking to the proper format. After all it only takes 2 days to UPS it.

Does anyone know if 'barcode' simply means 'case number' in this context? Or is the barcode a completely different thing to the case number?

OK, I just spoke to my husband, the USC. He was sent a copy of the DS-3032 whilst I was sent the real thing. He says the barcode is already printed on there. So I didn't make a mistake.

It seems the DS-3032 in James Shortcuts is not the same as the one we received after all. As a result I have been in a bit of a panic this morning thinking I did the form wrong but I didn't.

I am not sure about these shortcuts regarding self-generated forms. It seems from my experience today that the only way to be sure you're doing the latest forms is to just use the ones NVC sends. You can always use the downloads for practice in the meantime so you're pretty much ready to go when the stuff does come through. And I won't be generating any barcodes for myself as it looked v. complex. Can see that one going a bit pear-shaped!

I didnt use the self generated barcodes either, which is why I began the NVC Timesavers thread. I then took on caretaker of James Shortcuts which is included in the thread. Many thousands of people I invisage have used James Shortcuts for over a year now with none to date that have been noted as causing any issues what so ever even though the size of the barcode is different in size. James Shortcuts can save quite a considerable amount of time.......6-8 weeks approx and in many cases more. All forms that are linked within both the first post of the Timesavers thread and in James Shortcuts are the most up to date forms as they are linked directly to the Government forms sites and the ones that are currently in use by both the various departments. Using downloaded forms is totally acceptable. You can read of other ways to save time other then using James Shortcuts.....read my first post in the NVC Timesavers.

All the best to you.

You can take care the DS 3032 (Choice of Agent) thing through email. Girl37's email is an excellent sample one. The beneficiary should email the NVC and ask NVC to appoint the USC petitioner as the choice of agent for further correspondence. Make sure, the beneficiary writes down the case number on the subject line of the email. You can save time by taking care of the choice of agent through email.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

I would have used James Shortcuts but there's something I don't understand about the barcodes. The NVC puts a barcode on the form it has generated to you. Therefore, if you self-generate a barcode, surely it won't match the barcode they have assigned to that particular form for you?

It's a brilliant idea to get all ready in advance and fire it off the minute you know a form has been generated an NVC, but I'm a it lost with the barcode thing. I would have thought that the code they issue is the code they need you to return.

All the barcode is, is the NVC case number you were assigned. By using the linked site in James Shortcuts your are able to self generate the barcode using that same NVC case number. It's as simple as that. It has always been advocated that if one is not comfortable in using the shortcuts or worried about doing it correctly, then one should just wait on the forms etc from NVC. They are easy though going from the posts from all that have used them and they have never to date been refused by NVC.

Lorelle

Thank you Lorelle.

The mists are clearing! thank you so much Lorelle.

When you get your AOS fee bill you will get your another copy of the bar code. With the help of a handy little copy-scan-print 3N1 printer you can do all sorts of wonderful things with that fee bill barcode to prepare the forms follwing James short cuts. If I remember correctly there will be a nice small one for the top of the page and the nice big one for the barcode cover sheet. Make lots of copies and start playing with the copy function and good old fashioned scissors.

Also, if you read Lorelle's guide, she recommends you keep make two copies of everything you send in, one for you and one for your SO.

Cheers
