Preventing bad breath actually involves a lot less than what it takes to get rid of bad breath. Bad breath, the formal term for it being halitosis, is not a clinical ailment. It is simply a physiological phenomenon that tends to occur in every human being and unfortunately, is a source of annoyance for most individuals. Owing to the fact that bad breath occasionally occurs as a result of other concealed physical ailments or abnormally regulated lifestyles, it is quite natural for anyone to develop a bad impression regarding someone having bad breath.

There are a number of remedies for bad breath. Nevertheless, unless steps are taken for preventing bad breath, it can become a chronic and recurrent problem, causing frequent embarrassments. Of course, there are remedies available today that get rid of bad breath within a matter of minutes, but their effects are only transient. In order to prevent bad breath or halitosis, several norms should be observed, regulating the lifestyle along a regular and hygienic routine. The overall procedure might sound extremely complex, but for the most part, it is quite simple and a large number of people exercise those practices daily without being aware that they are also preventing bad breath in the process.

The first step to preventing bad breath is good oral hygiene. One should be sure to brush one's teeth at least twice daily. Residues of ingested food in the oral cavity can become a major cause for bad breath. Bad breath or halitosis is caused mainly by the presence of bacteria in the oral cavity. These bacteria break down the proteinaceous constituents of the food residues to create volatile gases, classified under the category of 'volatile sulfur compounds' or VSCs. These foul-smelling compounds are the principal source of bad breath. An example of a VSC is hydrogen sulfide, characterized by its smell of rotten eggs.

Scraping of one's tongue is also essential. The tongue must be scraped with a clean tongue scraper daily, right up to its back. By removing the residues that tend to get deposited on the tongue, this practice prevents the rapid recurrence of bad breath effectively.

Flossing should be made a regular practice for preventing bad breath. Not only does flossing remove the residues of dirt and undigested food from the oral cavity, but it also keeps the oral cavity clean and moist. Moreover, preventing bad breath also involves certain changes in one's diet. For example, certain foods tend to cause bad breath, like milk, garlic and onions. One must take sufficient care to floss thoroughly after consuming any of these, and then to chew any herb like mint if possible.

Systemic and internal disorders can also result in bad breath. Therefore, preventing bad breath involves a lot more than oral hygiene. It requires a healthy and disease-free lifestyle.

Well, that just stinks !

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Halitosis is an advertising term from the 40s or 50s, isn't it? A term to make anti-bad-breath products more marketable? I'm pretty sure it's not scientific.

Foul breath is offensive whatever you choose to call it.

I used to work with a guy who had perma-skank breath. It was a medical condition, I believe. I felt kind of bad for him. It was horrible though. I told him that I was gonna catch the cat that shyt in his mouth every night. Jokingly of course.

LOL...That's a delicate way to put it.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
