I actually did that and it was as much of a success as anything, although he preferred it with cheese on top :) He also took a bit to grilled vegetables, but really he just doesn't liked cooked veggies. I don't like boiled vegetables either and never make them.

I hate boiled vegetables, too. I generally steam, roast or grill them. Moh does like roasted carrots and potatoes. He also likes corn and eggplant (prefers it fried though). He hates zucchini, brocolli, grean beans, asparagus, cauliflower, etc.

Have you guys tried roasting vegetables? I always roast carrots, broccoli, potatoes, and green beans so that they are flavorful and crunchy. I hate boiled vegetables! I like the crust on roasted vegetables and Hicham likes it too, thanks God.

Julianna, I know what you mean; I've gained about 20 pounds since my husband's been here. He loves to eat, especially at night and does not want to eat alone (without me). I've got to think of a way to stop this; it's getting out of hand.

Oh lordy-- exactly. I gained 20lbs exactly since he's been here and I had gained about 10 or so since i had seen him last... add to that the 9lbs off i was form my goal and I was freaking out when I realized I was 39lbs over what I want to be. I got right on my stairstepper and did 30 minutes for the first time! Ammar loves bread, rice, and soda. He also only wants to eat with me, and sometimes wants me to eat off the piece he's eating off of, so I just had to explain to him I cannot do that anymore and why. I forget who posted the cinnamon roll recipe, but they are evil :)I made them for him and have made them every single day for teh past 2 weeks. He;s the only person I know who can eat a dozen cinnamon rolls every day for 2 weeks and still be thin.

ME?? EVIL??? :crying:

i love roasted veggies. especially asparagus and cauliflower. i do it the same way, with a bit of olive oil or cooking spray, salt, pepper, and parmasean. yummm... i'll probably do that tonight. we also frequently roast peppers, cut them up, and saute with some olive oil, grated tomatoes, garlic, salt, and red and black pepper. that's yum too.

really the only way we both like vegetables is roasted or grilled. i like them steamed and he likes them boiled to death. if i make green beans for dinner i have to make them two different ways - steamed crisp for me and boiled mushy for him. bleh.

I really need to try to make more fish because we both love it, but i just never think to buy it when i'm at the market. I know i'd have to make that two different ways too... he loves this broiled tilapia i make with a creamy parmasean sauce on top... i'll have to dig into the depths of the cooking thread to find a good, healthy fish recipe. I'm sure there is one.

I've totally cut out soda and now have to taste for it at all. I'm trying to cut out bread and pasta... but I love both!

We have been eating a lot of fish lately. When time is limited I cook filets in parchment paper pouches over vegetables so everything steams. It's easy, fast, and no clean up!

I really like halibut over fennel, peppers, olives etc.

I wish Ammar liked baked, broiled, or any other kind of meat* other than grilled. I feel bad like he's getting the same thing every day!

(oh, excuse me, I forgot-- chicken and fish are not meat. )

Hey thanks for reminding me of fish! We eat it so rarely but the husband does love it and ate it probably 3 times a week back home. Really good fresh fish isn't so easy to come by where I live. Maybe this warrants a trip to the fish market this week. I've gotta get out of this cooking rut I've been in lately.

my husband made the most awesome healthy fish this weekend. we like a whole fish head and tail on but you could do it with anything. he basically sauteed garlic, tomatoes, hot peppers, salt, pepper, parsley and lemon juice (no oil) together and then he baked the fish and poured the sauce on top. it was so delicious with no added oil. i think i need to pick up a fish tonight!

I eat the following pastas, one portion and I dont feel bad about it: Barilla plus (high protein and tastes the most like pasta), ezekiel pasta, and shirataki noodles (40 calories for the whole bag plus protein!)

Sounds delicious! My husband and I actually prefer whole fish (head and tails on). It's easier to determine freshness when fish are whole.

I've never tried the Ezekial pastas, but I have had their tortillas and bread. Are their pastas pretty good?

Well if you like ezekiel in place of regular bread then you might like the pasta in place of regular pasta. its not very pasta tasting but its good as a conduit for marinara. Barilla + is very close to regular pasta, I really like it and eat that more often. The shirataki noodles are amazing in terms of health but they are more ramen/asian like so I tend to eat those with a teeny bit of sesame oil, soysauce and sesame seeds for a soba noodle type dish.

I really like ramen/asian/udon/rice/anyofthose kinds of noodles so I am sure those would be nice! Barilla is something I am going to have to take a look for and see what I can find as well. Then it just comes down to portion control, that blasted self-monitoring.
