I think it's bollocks. You'd have to be a bloody prat to pick up on the slang/accent of your bird.

I think of y'all are telling porkies.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

It means something. I guess something is too difficult to type out.

No way, insha'allah.

bwahahahaha...

do arabs/north africans use astaghfirullah as a means of expressing outrage/disgust? i've heard it a lot but never from arabs.

I've never heard it, but that really means nothing about whether it's used. I'm not very observant, generally.

From Dictionary of UK Slang

summat Pron. Something. E.g."There's summat up with the engine. Everytime we accelerate the exhaust blows smoke." [Northern use/dialect]

I still have a Brit accent after 2yrs. I use Brit slang around my wife, tho she says there's less of it now. I use US words for clarity, but hear them gratingly in my head, as if it's false.

I have an "American" accent when speaking Russian, which Russians say sounds odd. Of course, there are not many Russian-speaking Americans, so few Russians are used to hearing such an accent.

My wife of course has a Russian accent when speaking English.

Holy #######, so I'm not the only one?

I have lived and traveled in many countries and parts of the US and like my name('Pattu' means parrot in Nepali) I just end up mimicking the accents and speech patterns of people I am with. It's not a conscious thing, it just happens.

i did that also when i lived in london. i found myself picking up on words and an accent for things. but when i returned to the states it faded away eventually!

i'm currently trying to learn my husband's language but it is very difficult!!!

I try to speak to my fiancée in words that she would choose and in her accent. She appreciates it, highly. The further we travel down this journey, the more new phrases I toss at her to help her say it more "American" like.

Perhaps surprisingly I don't speak with an American accent, despite being here for 4 years. Friends of mine who have visited haven't commented on it at any rate (though there is that whole thing about linguistic assimilation and adaptation).

As far as dialect goes - I do use certain American dialect words, in both speech and writing - really for reasons of expediency. Its too much of a hassle to explain what word X means to USCs and they invariably cause confusion, so its easier to use the local equivalents.

I don't write in an accent though, nor do I know anyone who does. I'd say that's pretty rare outside of Irvine Welsh novels ;)
