We're stuck with those azzholes. The other azzholes are the responsibility of the countries they are citizens of. They have no right or grounds to be here illegally and shouldn't be here to add to the existing crime problem. I don't see the logic of pointing to American criminals. It has nothing to do with these illegal aliens having a right to be here.

I could give a sh*t if they commit crimes in their country. And our politicians could give a sh*t less if these azzholes victimize people in this country. Our politicians and the illegal aliens both need to be gone.

Including Mr. Horn? Or does he get a pass from the jerk list because he shot two Colombian illegal immigrants?

that were doing the b&e........

The peeps who are responsible for most of the crime in my neck of the woods are borne and bred right here in the United States. Children of urban blight, mostly.

AND the highest property taxes in the country? Quite a prize New Jersey is.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Comparing Mr. Horn to the 2 deceased career criminals and illegal aliens is laughable and misses the point entirely from the big picture and its implications to the USA.

Look at Mr. Horn and the life he has led and look at the rap sheet of these 2 crooks. Who are the real jerks? I'll give you 3 guesses and the first 2 don't count. ;)

Of course he can't be a jerk, he's never shot anyone before so clearly that fact that he shot two people now is irrelevant. The guys he shot were both criminals AND illegal aliens, worthless people's who's lives should have been ended.

Give him a medal for his services to the community and be done with it.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

Me oh my...aren't we dripping with sarcasm today?

I agree with the 2 highlighted portions of your statement...not much else though.

I look at it as an unfortunate situation all around. There is nothing to cheer or celebrate about here.

However...other than being sarcastic, outraged, and labeling the guy a jerk...what do you think should be done here?

Peejay - out of curiosity why did you post this article?

It doesn't seem to have been for the purposes of fostering a discussion about "solutions", which you haven't offered here either.

It is an unfortunate situation all around - those guys shouldn't have been here to commit that crime, I agree. However it doesn't mean that Mr Horn doesn't have a case to answer. You've said much the same earlier too - so I don't really get this tangent as to what "magic solution" would have somehow prevented this from happening.

The man would be in the exact same legal position regardless of the immigration status of the people involved in the incident.

I am not outraged and I don't think the guy is a jerk. However, I don't think the legal status of the two intruders makes any difference in whether there is a case to answer either. Personally I think there is a case to answer because I don't think that watching a crime take place entitles one to take the lives of those committing the crime, particularly if there is no threat to anyone's life or safety.

However, those in Texas have some differing views on the importance of possessions so I am interested in what happens with this case.

As for the sarcasm, big deal.

Who ever said the case hinges on whether these guys are illegal aliens or not? I never said that.

However, the fact that they are illegal aliens is significant and opens up wider issues that have zero to do with how this particular case eventually plays out. Such as...why are they and thousands like them here illegally in the first place to victimize Americans? These and others like them are not rare, isolated incidents. It is all too common...illegal aliens committing crimes in the USA. Why doesn't my government secure the border as it is sworn to do by law? It is a very valid point in this story. In fact...it is the main reason I posted this story. These guys have zero reason or right to be in the USA in the first place. Many people here on VJ think they do. I don't! The fact that we have American born criminals too doesn't explain why some believe illegal aliens have a right to invade the USA. I don't "get" that logic. Explain it to me.

As to whether Mr. Horn was or was not justified in killing these guys...the chips will fall as they may as the case goes through the system. It's easy to be an armchair quarterback after the fact...you weren't there. It's not like Mr. Horn was cruising up and down the street looking for trouble. He was minding his own business in his own house when he was thrown into a situation that was not of his own making.

So...what do you think? Should Horn get life without parole? Dragged behind a truck down a gravel road for 2 miles by his ankles? Probation? Forfeit his life savings and live under a bridge for the rest of his life? You said he is guilty of something. How does he pay his debt to society if he is guilty of a crime?

Or do you just want to complain about the outcome after the fact and make grand proclamations? Enquiring minds want to know. ;)

I come to VJ to educate and be educated.

He killed 2 people, is he guilty of a crime....let me see. Well my moral compass would indicate yes, killing 2 people should be a crime. I'm not a judge and I don't know what his sentence should be, it should be whatever the people of that State have decided is an appropriate punishment for murder.

So you are saying it is murder? Capital, 1st degree, or 2nd degree murder? How about manslaughter? How about justifiable homicide? How about self defense?

There is a big difference between a killing and a murder. And there are different degrees of murder. Which is it and what is the appropriate punishment?

As for me...I'd give the guy a probated sentence and not a single day in jail. I'd bet there is a 99.9999999999% chance this guy would never commit a future crime or be any threat to society with the limited knowledge I have of the case...IMO. Look at Horn, look at the crooks, and look at the circumstances. Why jail the guy?
