Well, the party was .............................boring. Why am I suprised. However, I did good schmoozing (thanks to my 2 acting classes I took in college) and I looked fabulous (so I have some good pictures). We arrived late and left early. i wonder if my boss is going to talk to me today about it. She looked pissed we were leaving so early. Oh well.

Tell them to stick it! Or, I've done this before, tell them to pay you ovetime wages. If your spouse isn't invited, then it is a work (not social) event and you need compensation.

It's been years since I've had a job that held an office party. What pisses me off is when they have the nerve to say spouses are not invited. I find it very rude. I refused to attend. Christmas is for family. If I can't bring my SO, I'm sure in Hell not going to spend another few hours with the people I have to look at every single day while the woman I love sits alone at home.

glad you brought that up. spouses are not invited to our so called employee party. :protest:

did that. i feel if they really want to have a worker appreciation party, they should hold it earlier rather than later in the day, most of us come in early and are leaving/have left by the time that party starts. nor do i think much of the spouses not being invited. bleh.

I have to go to mine. Gotta show team spirit. Don't have any stories though, they are usually very boring.

Get drunk before the party to make it interesting.

haha no way. Upper management here are the kind of people who value a good suit, good manners and clear speech. If I have any shot at a promo at all (and I'm not sure I do) then I must behave :)

I've never been to a holiday party where spouses were invited.

Interesting. I go without her all the time, she's way too busy with school.

This is why I won't work for a company where I can't be myself. I ask at an interview what their feelings are towards family. If they say, "We understand, family comes first." or "We are a very family oriented firm." then sign me up. Screw company spirit. I go to work to make money for my family, nothing more. When the workday ends so does my connection to the company. I never "walked down the aisle" with a company. I'll save my good manners for my spouse whom I did.

I'm glad that works for you, it doesn't for me. Networking has paid off well for me over the years, I'm used to it, I accept it and so does my wife.

And I take work home all the time. The systems and customers I support don't drop dead at 6pm so neither can I. I help them out, they help me out. It works well.

But to each our own :)

Me neither. I have never went out "for a beer" after work. I just spent 8, 9, 10 whatever hours with you, now I'm supposed to give you more of my time (and pay for it?) Forget it, not when there is a warm, loving wife waiting at home. I'd rather take HER out for a beer and do!

If it works for you, nothing wrong with that. For me, work ends when I leave those doors and MY life returns.

I'm glad that works for you, it doesn't for me. Networking has paid off well for me over the years, I'm used to it, I accept it and so does my wife.
