Since when are fifteen-year-olds middle schoolers?

I used to work as a school social worker. I saw a lot of middle schoolers who were 14 and 15. The saddest case I ever saw though was a 6th grader who was going to turn 16 at the end of the year!!!!! He ended up dropping out when he turned 16 ... imagine that.

It's a mighty sad day when you can drive yourself to middle school.
