I am a bit amazed at how many other people have this problem too!

So, if you are looking for Christian in Arlington, VA, he has not had this phone number in almost 2 years so stop calling!

This is why I NEVER answer an anonymous or unavailable number. Deal with my voice mail. If it is that important, you will leave a message. Further, I absolutely hate it when they ask, "Who is this?" You called me. You knocked on my door. This is how is works: "Knock, knock... Who's there?" Not, "knock, knock, whose door is this?" Go away debt collectors and telemarketers. Go far away.

My friend - great minds think alike  . If I'm really, really bored, I answer and tell them: Why don't you give me YOUR HOME NUMBER so I can call YOU back at dinner time?????????????????????????

And yup, the Do Not Call registry works a bit, exception made of charities. We received calls from telemarketers since day 1 of moving into the new place

p.s. and for those of you looking for Victoria in my "new" cellphone: she died, or something.

Except that they're relentless so you have to make the calls stop. At least until the next go-round, anyway. :(

Thanks Derekkj. I, too, would like to let the debt collectors know that I do not run a business called "Down to Earth", nor is my name Rolando or Winston. Thank you.

Yup, and if I do answer the phone and hear silence for more than a second, I hang up. That delay is almost always a telemarketer's computer connecting the call. If it's not and it's important, they will call back.

A few weeks ago, my mother, who lives in Arizona, got a call from a debt collector who was looking for my stepmother's ex-husband (that is, the person my stepmother was married to before she married my dad after my parents' divorce). Actually, I think they were looking for someone with the same name, not the guy himself, who is a local politician in Massachusetts. The outer circles of connections that debt collection agencies are using now are crazy.

My mother just said, "there's no one here by that name," rather than saying, "you're calling me looking for my deceased ex-husband's widow's ex-husband?" We're talking about people who were divorced 25 years ago.

I can't help but think of the family wars that could be started if these are the tactics being used now to track people down.

"If you track down that so and so, tell him to kiss my #@#$ #@#$$$#@! How did you get my number? Did that **()@# give it to you? Who are you?! What the ($*(*$)#)#!"

Yeah, my hubby's ex wife had a debt (like 30$) from a medical bill that happened almost 3 years ago..

They called ME, at OUR new phone number, which she never had, to ask me about that bill....like #######???

It's not like she is hiding or anything, she lives with her parents that has the same phone number for over 15 years...why don't they call there first?? But not instead they traced back her ex husband and calls the new wife about it.

a$$holes

Well I then gave the phone to my hubby and something funny happened.

He asked them what it was about and they said " Well that's for you to find out with her"

So when they asked him if he had her phone number, he answered "Well that's for you to find out"

It's her problem for not paying her debts and for not giving her new phone or address to the places she owes money to. They will find her sooner or later from her job (she has been working there for over 5 years) or even the kid's schools if necessary. We could care less

Very true! Or the, "Please wait while this very important call is connected." WHAT? You called me to place me on hold. This or any dead silence is surely a computer connecting you to the scum back in the cubicles.

you're joking, right? :hehe:

they got the answering machine, i wasn't home at the time.

No. lol. I'm thinking if the guy's bad enough to be in jail he might be really ticked that you didn't post bail and now he's got your number. :o

he'd be even more pissed if he knew his friend changed phone numbers over 2 years ago and didn't tell him...
