It's the same God, by the way. It's also the same as the Jewish God!

Not exactly...Christianity and Islam are both monotheistic, but to say they believe in the same God ignores what they each teach about God and Jesus.

Well, I disagree. Abrahamic faiths --> same God. You may not like the way he's worshipped by non-Christians, but it's still the same God.

It's not about how he is worshipped, but whom is worshipped. Christians say Jesus, as the second person of the Trinity, is God and worship him accordingly. Islam says Jesus is only a man, and does not worship him as God. Therefore, the two religions are not worshipping the same God.

Well, we'll have to disagree. I usually hear this sort of reasoning on anti-Muslim websites. *shrug*

ETA: and I understand the difference between how Christians and Muslims view Jesus, thanks.

Very hostile, aren't you? Scott was being respectful, there's no call for that.

Christmas is already as secularized as I think it can get. Millions of people all over the world, who have never paid a moment's thought to the Christian god, are only too happy to take part in the festivities. But oh no, somehow Christians aren't allowed to reclaim this festival and put something remotely relating to their religion where other people might see it! The sky would fall in!

I'm sure someone's going to jump on me and say that Christmas trees weren't originally about Christmas at all and were nicked from pagan Yule celebrations, but I say if Christianity was happy enough to encorporate a pagan ritual into their festivities, why can't other religions today be as tolerant, and just live and let live?

It's not about Christmas Trees not being about Christmas, it's about Christmas originally being the Sabbath of Yule celebrating the birth of the Sun God :luv:

But, technically there is nothing Christian about a Christmas Tree unless you load it with litlle Jesuses and put a Nativity Scene underneath it....

I like how they do it in the school where I work- displays include Christmas, Hanukah and Kwanzaa symbols

Naturalized! Yeah!

I shouldn't probably get involved because I know these discussions can get lengthy and I am feeling lazy...but just wanted to add a couple things. :innocent:

The Sabbath day law is under the Law in the Old Testament. If Christians were following that exactly, we wouldn't have church on Sunday it would be on the literal Sabbath day. That would be fine but I believe Jesus made it clear when he said he fulfilled the law, and he healed someone on the Sabbath which ticked off the Jewish religious leaders, also had his disciples gather food, another thing that ticked off the leaders. (Matthew 12:1-12 and Luke 13:10-17 just for some references).

So if this was truly a Christian nation, I don't think the "no work" thing would be enforced as strictly as some of you may think. It is meant as a day to rest and relax and think of God, but even Jesus did good work on the Sabbath. There is a big difference between the Law in the OT and how Christians live now according to what happened in the NT. That would also include that there would not be stonings in case anyone thinks that would be the case.

Ha! Whatever. I'm just calling you out. Scott was nice, you were rude. Irony is, you're a "organizer" so you really should know better :)

All a matter of perspective. I was nice, and he was patronizing.

And since when do YOU call people out for being rude? Rather ironic, no? Oh wait, yeah you just have a gripe with ME. Get over it.

And the church said :) ....very eloquent

You snidely implied he was anti-Muslim. And he wasn't the one rolling his eyes. Work on that attitude, organizer.

###### YOU, #######. You're really a pice of work. A nerd who can't interact with people in real life and just takes pot shots from behind his computer screen. What a loser.

It would not be an experiment that hasn't been done before. We used to survive just fine with no one allowed to work one day a week. When I was a kid, everything was shut down and closed on Sunday.

Under a truly Christian nation, this would be more strictly enforced than just not opening shops. Think about all the things that happen for our society to continue as normal, which requires people to work on a Sunday. Electricity goes out for a whole city. Who can fix it, if you're not allowed to work?

Does this actually happen anywhere in the world?

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I am pretty sure something pretty close is observed by Orthodox Jews.
