San Francisco to give illegal aliens ID cards

I thought of the same thing but at the same time, WE CANNOT SET A PRECEDENCE.

Would you rather they drive around uninsured, unregistered, uninspected, and unlicensed?

Where does the term ... "resident identification card" suddenly migrate into a DL?

Because the state DMV is in charge of issuing both ID cards and DLs.

Unless it's just a SF city thing, not a state thing.

Why is it a bad thing?

1. Illegal aliens exist, whether we like it or not.
2. Illegal aliens drive, whether we like it or not.

If they had driving licences, we would at least

• know who they are,
• know where they live, and
• make sure they know how to drive before they get behind the wheel of a car

I agree. Its not the responsibility of states and cities to enforce immigration law. But public safety for their jurisdiction is their responsibility. If this helps the cities and states handle their responsibilities, then so be it. It does leave a bit of a paper trail for the ICE when they finally get around to it.

If you want to do something about illegal immigration. Call your representative and ask them to increase the budget to the ICE. They are way underfunded for the scope of their responsibility.

HUGE ... difference between a State issued DL and a local municipal ID card.

As much as I hate it, it's NOT a driver's license. All it is is a card which will have no bearing in any other city/state I guarantee you. I'm unsure of the benefit of such cards, as they are not federal ID or a DL.

Thank god for a tiny bit of common sense here.

If only it were that simple. You will likely end up paying more taxes, and you will keep paying those higher taxes.
