? About going to HCMC with Wife

Hi All - It's been a while since I have been on here. Hope everyone is doing well.

My wife and I are going to Vietnam agian in 2008. This will be our first trip back to veitnam since she came here. WHAT do I need to do to be able to get a hotel room with her without having to be suspected of bringing a ####### to my room? ....Also...my wifes fiance will be going over as well and we are trying to come up with a creative way so that he and his fiance can share a room in a decent hotel. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

i hope your wife doesn't have a fiance, but in anycase bring your marriagfe cert. to show to the hotel...a guest house may be your best bet considering they pay off the police to allow there guests to stay there.

When I was back there with my fiancee, they only asked for my passport which they held onto until the day we checked out. I really don't think a marriage certificate is neccesary.

We stayed at a few places. The first trip to Nha Trang (my home town) we stayed at Dai Duong Ocean and Dong Phuong 2. On the second trip back to Nha Trang, we stayed at Sofitel VinPearl Resort. In HCM City, we stayed at The Sheraton on Christmas Eve of 2006. Right after Christmas we headed out to Mui Ne and stayed at CoCo Beach Resort for the New Year.

Same here. For days that we are not out of town I stayed with my finacee and her family. The only night we stayed at a hotel in HCM was on Christmas Eve as we just gotten back from Nha Trang that same day.

On my two trips to HCMC, I stayed with my fiance's sister's family since they had an extra room I could stay in. I got photocopies of the Temporary Residency Book which I inlcuded in the petition. However we haven't stayed anywhere else over night because she's more conservative. And there really is a law about a foreigner not being in the same hotel room with a natonal. Being I'm white it would be obivious. While I don't know how often they enforce it, I don't want to find out. The State Department says they can't do anything besides telling your family you're in jail and making sure you're being treated lawfully. When we go back after we are married, I plan on bringing our marriage certificate just in case.

I had no idea that there's a law for something like this. Maybe I haven't seen during those stays with my fiancee is because I'm also Vietnamese??

In any case, to the OP you should take with you a marriage certificate just to be on the safe side.

Ok...SORRY I made a typo in the original post....My WIFES SISTERS FIANCE is traveling with us. He would like to be able to get a room in Saigon when we arrive at the airport but he won't have proof of marriage (because they are not married yet).

Let me give some background....I have been to VN twice and MOST places my wife (fiance back then) were able to stay in hotels together with no trouble. ONLY at the NICE hotels in Saigon they wanted proof of marriage.

We figure that me and my wifes SISTER's fiance can get a room and then my wife and her sister can get a room and then my wife and I can just go to one room and him and my wifes sister and just go to the other room. Just wondering of there was anything else besides this we could try...OR if anyone knew of a nice hotel in Saigon where they were lax on these rules. Me and the other guy are WHITE..and my wife and here sister are vietnamese.

I'm sorry you have to go through this trouble. This isn't right. If anything I would think the less nice hotels would question, but a nice hotel? I don't know what they're thinking. I hope that it doesn't have to resort to that when you head back. I'm not really familiar with the city so I really don't know which hotels will give you a hard time. Maybe some members will be able to help answer.

On my last trip (X-mas 2006) to Vietnam, when my aunt took my passport to the police station to make the registration for my staying, they told her that there is no more need to do that process.

Me and my fiancee did not experience any problem with the authority by living in same room at our hotels during our trips.She had her ID card and I had my passport. Maybe just because I speak vietnamese (?). We did wear our wedding rings though. People always addressed us as mr and mrs. (anh, chi) even they knew we don't have the same last names.

Yes, those laws are still on the books, but I don't think there will be any problem, UNLESS one of the people involved is under 21. I never had any problems about staying with my fiancee in a hotel. Well, we had to get Mom's permission Really, they do not want to cause trouble for you, because they want to attract foreign tourist dollars. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
