where is the option for the second question for "not sure" ??

Marilyn - you live in SoCal, you see them every day, trust me.

I know a few, and I don't live in cal... and why that 'you see them every day, trust me', are you afraid of them? are they gonna try to rob you, kill you or offer you some dope?

Did I say that?

You win, you've made a flawed poll that serves no purpose except to anger people.

Let her testify, put the wife beater in jail, and then send her back.

She is in no position to make a deal. A crime has been committed. She is under supoena to testify. If she doesn't, then she is in contempt of court. There are no dels available.

If she is in contempt, put her in jail and then deport her.

you need more options....I dint vote.

Now for a quick trip into the twilight zone - She is the wife beater.

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)

I liked the poll and I certainly see its purpose. And dayum, some folks are crazy. The poll, if taken in a vacuum, asks if you see illegal immigration-related crimes as worse than wife beating. There really isn't any sort of "flaw" that would prevent anyone from answering it. I find it heartening that even on VJ, most people aren't entirely rabid and foaming at the mouth.

Also, question #2 was "do you know" an illegal immigrant, not "are you aware of some in your communities." If the question were "are any of your friends illegal immigrants" I wonder what would happen. I have some, and the ones I've met recently were all Irish or Eastern European. Hm,

So? Illegal is illegal. And it seems the ONLY ones who make the nationality distinction are those against us anti-illegals..

Sorry Alex..that's the way I see it!

PS....glad to see you back (L)

This is my last post to you of the day, but certainly illegal is not illegal. Jaywalking is not double homicide, and stealing a pack of gum is not rape.

The reason why we debate the law is so we can improve on it. "Illegal" is ever-changing and almost meaningless as an argument unto itself. I'm surprised so many people simplify things that way.

Well, we are talking about being in America illegally, not breaking a law by jaywalking.

You are either living in America legally or not. Seems pretty clear.

il·le·gal

–adjective

1. forbidden by law or statute.

2. contrary to or forbidden by official rules, regulations, etc.: The referee ruled that it was an illegal forward pass.

–noun

3. Informal. illegal alien.

lotta people know illegals .......

There's knowing and then there's knowing.

I've lived and worked with illegal alien laborers that the oil companies hire to do construction labor on the production facilities in the US Gulf of Mexico. Some even admit they are illegal aliens. What do they have to fear? Fat chance that anyone would come get them even if they were reported.

I don't hang around with them after I leave work. We don't have a lot in common. I don't hate them, but they have no business working illegally in my country and the construction contractors need to be hit hard for blatantly hiring them. They know they are hiring illegals and don't care. Neither do the oil companies.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
