well, like I mentioned earlier on the "Say anything thread", our TV died today :crying: so we decided to look at the Salvation Army after asking his Dad and brother if we could borrow one of their TV's and they said no :P anywho, right when we walked in we saw a sign that said 50% of all TV's today only... we were like yippeee, it is our lucky day...

so we went and picked one out.. they had a bunch of them on and we picked one that had really good picture quality and seemed to work.. it is a 27 inch Sony TV and we got it for 35 bucks...

so after hubby lugged it inside we plugged it in and noticed something funny with the sound..... you can turn it all the way up but the sound is still really muffled... then I checked the receipt and it said no exchanges on sale items :P:angry:

anywho, hubby left for the gym and I was fiddling around and decided to try and hook the DVD player straight to the TV and I almost blasted my ear drums off  the sound works perfect with the DVD player :unsure:

so it can't really be a problem with the speakers on the TV can it?? maybe it is some setting on the TV?? problem is the TV didn't come with a remote... we do have a universal remote that came with the cable box but I can't figure out how to program the TV onto it...

ok found how to add the TV to the remote and mission was accomplished successfully

now I just have to figure out this sound thing :P

The sound amplification is working perfectly. I think the problem is on the signal part of the tv. Maybe some device there is defective that couldn't filter the signal perfectly.

You can search the model on internet for manual. I just wondering about "no exchanges", is it illegal?!

they allow exchanges but not on Sale days and sale items :P

I found this....

Question: Sony kv27ts27 TV has perfect picture but w/out sound when coax cable is hooked up to the back. But when VCR or DVD is hooked up using audio/video cables, the set works perfectly (w/ sound + picture).

Answer: Look for small green circuit board labeled sbx1637-xx. Probably has leaky capacitors. DO NOT attempt to repair, just replace. Available as generic from several suppliers for reasonable price.

the picture quality is great on the TV for an over 10 year old TV

You might not be pushing your luck, doodle. We have 4 or 5 Goodwill/Salvation Army stores in the Seattle area that often carry items like that. Just depends on the day or time of year. Best time is after Christmas and in August before school starts, I've discovered.

We moved the one and only TV we had from the living room into the bedroom and now we're hooked on watching TV in bed...what a concept. That means we need to get a second TV. Marilyn - Costco has some of the smaller LCD TV's for around $200 ....and the picture and sound quality are good. :star: I'm thinking about something around 27".

 $200 is way out of our price range right now

hubby got it working though using the AV cables..

I guess there is something wrong with the connection......geez, I have no idea what it is called  you know where you usually hook up the cable, that thing with the wire in the middle??:blush:

we just have to figure out if there is way to hook up the DVD player .. right now we have to disconnect the cable from the TV and hook up the DVD player... that is kind of a pain :P
