Seriously - glad you're out of there and safe. Mother's a #######, no sympthy or empathy, bad crime and did time? Definite sociopathic qualities. People around don't always stop this kind of guy. I'm not typically one to exaggerate - whoever asked you to sit at this open house really put you in danger, Lisa.

Anyways, glad you're safe. Don't go back, mmmmkay?

Say what

Yeah I called the listing agent and told her, and she was like '#######?' She warned be beforehand that he had done time...but the rest of this was a suprise to the both of us. She has limited her contact to short bursts of time...sign here, do this, do that  I was the first person to be graced with his company for hours on end.

The odd thing though....the neighbor across the street and him are obviously friendly. The neighbor had what seemed like a wife and kids too. And the guy's lived there for 8 years!

Oh well, glad it's not my listing, heh. Actually, I'd have never taken it in the first place...but that's me done with this.

It's strange...I actually kinda feel sorry for the guy. He seems really quite lost. But I aint the one to find him

As a matter of interest, do you ever worry about going to show someone round an empty house? do you go alone?

Yeah, safety's always a concern...I have a good system in place imo.

First, I don't go anywhere with a buyer without prequalling them first. Firstly, that kinda saves spending time showing people houses out of their price range, but really it's a great tool for safety; someone looking to mug/attack you will not give your colleague all their 411 including social, addy, etc.

I also have them meet me at the office first...we go thru stuff on the computer and whatnot, but while they are there, I ask for their DL. I take a photocopy of it and attach it to an itinerary that I give to the receptionist. She will call me sporadically (heh, my mom does too). And I have a code phrase that says 'i'm in trouble' but sounds innocuous to the ignorant ear.

And the buyers I work with follow in their own car. That's great for ins purposes, but also great for safety. Actually, it's good for weeding out the tirekickers who just want to be driven around all day long. I usually drive my Mercedes, and since it's a two seater, it's a great excuse.

And at open houses, I check in sporadically with my mom. I don't wear any jewelry, I don't carry a purse, and when I'm showing the house, I'm always the one by the door of whatever room we're in. I also keep groups of ppl together and don't allow them to wander all willy nilly. And my car's not in the driveway, able to be blocked in...rather it's parallel parked in front of the house, so it's easily accessible for a quick getaway.

And I carry mace

Sheesh! The lengths we go thru!

Wow, Lisa. I never thought of the real estate business as being a high risk career. Sounds like you're being smart about it.

Have you ever had other situations where you felt at risk?

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Glad to hear you got out of there ok. (F)

I must say though, i did chuckle as you were telling what was going on, not cause you were unsafe so to say, but how you were telling it ;) All i could imagine was you sat outside and this Charles Mason like person sitting there telling you his life story :P
