I agree. Meyer should not have been tasered. It shouldn't matter whether he was a known practical joker or attention seeker or not.

Whether you agree or disagree with Meyer's viewpoint he was merely exercising his right to free speech and this was duly recognised by John Kerry. In fact, the interesting point here is that Kerry was not phased by the question and wanted to address it. And in fact, Kerry's right to free speech was also breached by the actions that day.

Meyer may well have gone about this the wrong way and maybe it's right that the microphone was cut during his question but essentially he was not causing the threat the police assumed he was. If everyone had calmed down Meyer would have calmed down also. There was absolutely no need to use unreasonable force in this situation.

I suppose we should be grateful that the officer in question was holding a taser and not a gun.
