Packet 3 and Packet 4 - what are they?

Hello,

Was wondering, at what stage do the Packet 3 and Packet 4 get sent out, and who do they get sent to, the Applicant, or Petitioner? Are these packets sent out by the Embassy, and have to be filled out and brought to the Interview??

I was gettting the imression that when the Applicant goes to Embassy for Interview, they have to take with them some information and documents that have already been submitted to NVC, like DS-230, Affid of Support, etc.....

Can anyone here please help and explain this?

Thanks much!

Sorry - The I-130 (spouse) in my case....My status right now is, I have just received the I-864 packet (Barcode page etc), and the automated recording said that my IV Bil was generated 10/22. So now I am going to submit my I-864 along with supporting docs (copy of last year's Tax Return, W-2s, 1099s etc)...and then wait for the IV bill to arrive so I can pay ir real quick and then wait again for DS-230 form...

Packet 3 is the "Instruction Package" For standard processing posts (not many of them anymore), this is what the embassy sends out when it receives the petition from NVC. You return package 3 with DS-230 Part II to request your interview be scheduled.

Packet 4 is the "Appointment Package" This is the package that has the interview appointment and the final checklist of what to bring to the interview.

With NVC appointment processing, Packet 3 & 4 are obsolete, as you are really completing packet 3 when you return DS-230 Part I & II to NVC with the original civil documents, and NVC is really sending you packet 4 when the interview appointment is scheduled by them.

Thanks. So it's safe to assume that for my case, this Packet 3 & 4 procedure is obsolte, so I don't have to worry about it....I am going thru NVC processing (DS3032, AoS filing fee, AoS, IV Bill, DS230, etc....).

Based on your embassy (Damascus, Syria), it is standard processing, which means all documents are submitted to the embassy directly except for the DS-230, they will first mail the beneficiary a list of this documentation which is packet 3. Once the embassy receives notification that the beneficiary has all documents in order, they will make the appointment for the interview and send him/her a letter with a date and time, this is packet 4.

Check out the DOS link for more info http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3176.html

Can anyone please confirm or correct this information?

Thanks!

Diana

Sorry, Diana, but things have changed already and Damascus (and most embassies) are now NVC Appointment processing.

In fact, there a just 25 standard processing posts left, vs. 109 appointment processing posts. So, appointment processing is very much becoming the standard now.

Thanks a bunch! Really appreciate the knowledgable responses, you've been a big help. I believe from what I have read that this Embassy is an Appointment Post.

Yes, they did.

If you select Damascus in the link you provided, it opens the Appointment Processing instructions page.
