Hi everyone,

As you may have seen already I am preparing and working on the K1 to get sent out for my future spouse who lives in Hungary.

I am concerned that since I am college student and dont have a lot of money. That is going to affect my application process. I mean I have enough money to send everything and pay all the fees. But will I need to get a Co Sponsor, and is that possible?

Thanks,

-David

NO, It seems like a good portion of the people that post to this board are college students.

Your finances have no effect on applying for the visa only later when your fiancee inteviews for the visa, you may need a co-sponsor if your income is below 125% povertyline.

Being a student doesn't affect the ability to apply for fiancee visa. However, the income needed would affect approval from the embassy. Go to the USCIS web site and search under Immigration Forms. You want to look for Form I-864 for the poverty guidelines. The current guidelines are set to expire October 31, 2007. You should start considering who will act as your co-sponsor.

Good Luck!

Could my cosponsor be my parents? Do they just have to sign saying they will help pay if the circumstances are such where it is needed. I am thinking that my parents are the only ones who would be willing to co sign with something like this.

I'm in a kind of similar situation. My US fiance has been in Scotland with me so has not been working. Prior to this he was a student. I am using a member of his family as my co-sponsor. The only thing I'm panicing about is the fact that as he's never earned enough to file taxes he never has and some embassies (london very much so recently) seen to be obsessed with getting tax returns. I am also showing that I have around $12-13,000 worth of savings to live off. We are getting a free appartment from the same family member until we find our feet which we are also using towards support stuff as we won't need to worry about rent!

Sort of but let's keep the terminology straight. "Applying for the visa" is when the fiancee needs the I-134(s). Finances have no impact at the time the USC files the petition.

Yes, a parent. (notice the singular "a" ) can be the joint sponsor.

Again, Dave, it is important to keep the terminology straight. You don't want to find out if your are 125% below the poverty line. The sponsor needs have income exceeding 125% of the poverty line.
