But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

The DREAM Act has broad bipartisan support in Congress.

You're in the minority on this one. Enough people on both sides of the aisle see the benefit to this.

The original amnesty claimed that also. But when the people found out what was in it all hell broke loose.

Immigration Reform will need to be addressed sooner or later. This is one avenue of addressing some of the issues and it's sensible. Why do oppose it?

The only reform we need is to enforce the laws we already have and to kick out anyone that doesn't have the right to be here. Anything else is just pandering to law breakers.

If they're going to allow illegals to join the military as a path to Citizenship, then they should let any non-American without a Green Card to join provided they're patriotic and pass the tests etc. I know plenty of people who would sign up in an instant if they had a Green Card, but sadly don't.

Personally, I don't think that they should allow illegals to join in any case. If they can't respect the laws of the country, then how can they be expected to serve it and have the self discipline and mindset the military needs to be effective? There should however, be some scheme in place to allow a small number of non-Green Card holders from other countries to join each year, as it's an excellent way to show your committment to the US (one of the many reasons why I am strongly considering enlisting).

That's really a misnomer - to conclude that because someone is here illegally, they have no respect for law and order. That's as ridiculous as saying those who speed or smoke pot have no respect for our laws. Civil law is NOT the supreme ruler of justice...never has, never will.

Thanks Charles&Nessa...although FA is a guy B)

MF - I would rank illegal residency in a country as being a worse crime than speeding or minor drug use. It's a common misconception that "the military will take anyone these days" regardless of their criminal history or other issues. I read posts all the time on military recruiting discussion forums, where people have committed crimes and yet think they can still join the military. Naturally the Military understand that no one's perfect, but I have read posts where people who have committed burglaries, frequent drug use or dealing, DUI's etc think they can waltz in to a military career, and are sadly mistaken.

Different branches have different standards on what they will and won't accept, but even the National Guard who are the most lenient when it comes to criminal background, do have fairly strict standards and will require the applicant to get a "moral waiver" and have proved that they are a better person than when they committed the crime.

Joining the finest military in the world is a privilege and an honor for a person, not something to be handed out as a reward for breaking the law...especially when as I mentioned in the previous post, there are those who have respected US Immigration Laws yet are unable to join.

How is that inaacurate conclusion?? THEY willing Disobeyed a federal law

They are criminals of course they have no respect for the laws of our nation

And those who speed or smoke pot do NOT have respect those laws. Exactly! you proved my point & disproved yours

Illegal criminal aliens' 1st act on USA soil is that of criminal defiance and then they continue to break our laws by driving illegally, working illegally, tax evasion and sometimes even worse such as drug trafficking and violent crimes.

THey personofy those who have no respect for the law even worse they do not respect our laws and demand benefits and right they are NOT entitled to.

That is farking funny! hahash

To equate illegal immigration to terrorism is mere stupidity. To assume that immigration = home invasion and other crime is far worse, for it is indicative of simple racism. Most immigrants, including the illegal ones, are here to better there lives, not to take from ours.

WRONG! They are here to take, take, take advantage & steal from a system they put 0, nothing into, all for thier own personal needs or criminal agenda. IT has Nothing to do with race or racism it has to do with the laws and those who brweak the law should be made to pay the consequnces. Illegal immigration does open our boders to terrorism as it did to those who attacked on 9/11 so it is related. those who disrepect our laws and chose to illegally cross our border also have no care for the security or safety of our nation. They take from USA give Nothing back.

In conservative doctrine, those who break laws must be punished — or all law and order will break down. Failure to punish is immoral. “Illegal alien” not only stresses criminality, but stresses otherness. As we are a nation of immigrants, we can at least empathize with immigrants, illegal or not. “Aliens,” in popular culture suggests nonhuman beings invading from outer space — completely foreign, not one of us, intent on taking over our land and our way of life by gradually insinuating themselves among us. Along these lines, the word “invasion” is used by the Minutemen and right-wing bloggers to discuss the wave of people crossing the border. Right-wing language experts intent on keep them out suggest using the world “aliens” whenever possible.

These are NOT neutral terms. Imagine calling businessmen who once cheated on their taxes “illegal businessmen.” Imagine calling people who have driven over the speed limit “illegal drivers.” Is Tom Delay an “illegal Republican?”
