We have a dilemma which we assume many couples face. We would like to get a civil ceremony in the US after receiving the fiancee visa and then travel back to my fiancee's country to get a religious wedding.

Is the correct procedure for doing this to apply for Advanced Parole as soon as we get married?

How long on avergae does the Advanced Parole take to obtain?

Thank you for your help.

We applied for Advanced Parole when we filed our AOS documents. Advanced Parole was granted and we had the documents in hand in 35 days. Total time to AOS approval for Green card was 57 days.

AP timelines vary. You might consider that "married is married" and simply have your non-legal religious ceremony before departing for the US. If you do so before obtaining the visa, please don't refer to yourselves as husband and wife until you are or show "wedding pictures" at your "fiance" visa interview. Again, since married is married, the opposite is also true.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
