I was wondering if anyone on here had the experiance of applying for a tourist visa while the K1 is in process. Semih has an interview on Sept 18th and we are hopeful that he will get it. We were told by our lawyer that there is a very slim chance of getting it and even if he does get it he can be denied when he gets here and sent back, but we wanted to take our chances and try anyway. Semih lived here in the US for 5 yrs and went back to his country willingly, he left before his student visa expired. We feel this will look better for him, since he didn't overstay and went back willingly. We are just being honest with them and telling them the reason for the visit is b/c we miss each other and we would like to get officially engaged and make wedding plans. Any suggestions or input? Please keep us in your prayers, we will keep you posted.

If you think there is a slim chance of him getting a K-1 then in all likelyhood the chances of a tourist visa are probably slimmer.... On what basis do you think the K-1 will or could be denied?

YMMV

I think the awkward use of the pronoun "it" may have served to confuse. Probably the lawyer said there was a slim chance of getting a tourist visa. The lawyer is probably right. I don't see anything the fiance can do but do the best job he can at the interview and hope for the best. There is no magic wand for this. He'll need strong ties showing he will be returning to Turkey. A job, home and family will help but since he also has immigrant intent, and is a middle eastern male interviewing three days before the 6th anniversary of 9/11, I wouldn't hold my breath.
