I think it's awful and disgusting! And yes, I have a big problem with it!

why? cuz if a gay person stares at a kid, the kid will become gay? usually homophobes are hidin something in the closet ;)

I'm not pushing my personal preferences or beliefs onto anyone. I personally don't feel, think, believe or whatever that homosexuality is normal or acceptable. In short, it's awful and disgusting to me. What everybody else feels or believes is their choice. It does not make me homophobic. Nor do I treat gay people any differently than I treat anybody else. I have simply chosen to express it in words on this site and will in other forums, if needs be, to excercise my right to fight against it. Just like it's a gay persons right to fight for it.

Is that based on any rationale or just your icky feelings?

Is being gay based on rational or icky feelings? If you can answer that, then you have my answer...

I think the conventional wisdom regarding homosexuality and sexuality in general is that nobody decides what gender they are sexually attracted to. Given that notion that is generally accepted by science, then homosexuals are gay by birth. It isn't merely a lifestyle choice as many will tell you that they wouldn't wish it on their worst enemy. Suicide among gays is very high. We've reached a point of enlightenment with regard to sexuality to accept that biology is the deciding factor, so we feel disgusted with the idea that two people of the same sex can be a couple?

So you think that being gay is a birth defect...?

OK, are you going with conventional wisdom or science? It appears that you don't know which way to believe and so you have adopted both. That's convenient and safe, but so are most of your responses that make any sense to me. By the by, your "so called" conventional wisdom is simple logic. I didn't choose to be Black, but I'm not rich enough like MJ to change that reality. Just between you and me, I would commit suicide too if my conscience was that guilty.

Anyway, this conversation is boring and will not go anywhere. I feel how I do... and you feel like you do. It's a wash. Plus, I'm hungry...

Cheers!!!

I sincerely hope that my son, who I am convinced was gay from birth or at least from when he was very young, will be able to get married when he finds the right guy and be able to enjoy all the advantages, legal and social, or that institution.

And to the homophobe who insinuates that homosexuality may be a birth defect -- let me say that I have a bit of experience with that sort of thing.

My son is a fine, loving, extremely intelligent young man that I admire a lot. My daughter had hypoplastic left heart syndrome and died after open heart surgery when she was 20 days old. *THAT* is a birth defect. And it contributed in direct, proximate ways to the failure of my marriage. To suggest similarities between the two, especially if you have experienced neither, doesn't border on the obscene. It *IS* obscene.

novotul,

You are a wonderful mother - and I am sure your son will find the loving and caring parter he deserves. May he live in a society that recognises love in all its forms. As for your daughters passing away, I can only say I am really sorry. You are strong sister, and god has blessed you with many things. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Best, L.

Iowa gay marriage applications halted

By DAVID PITT, Associated Press Writer Fri Aug 31, 7:06 PM ET

DES MOINES, Iowa - Same-sex marriage was legal here for less than 24 hours before the county won a stay of a judge's order on Friday, a tiny window of opportunity that allowed two men to make history but left dozens of other couples disappointed after a frantic rush to the altar.

At 2 p.m. Thursday, Judge Robert Hanson ordered Polk County officials to accept marriage license requests from same-sex couples, but he granted the stay at about 12:30 p.m. Friday. By then 27 same-sex couples had filed requests, but only Sean Fritz and Tim McQuillan of Ames had actually gotten their license.

In the front yard of the Rev. Mark Stringer, pastor of the First Unitarian Church of Des Moines, they become the only same-sex couple wed in the U.S. outside of Massachusetts, where some 8,000 such couples have tied the knot.

Stringer concluded the ceremony by saying, "This is a legal document and you are married." The men then kissed and hugged.

"This is it. We're married. I love you," Fritz told McQuillan after the ceremony.

No more same-sex marriage licenses will be issued, and no more applications will be accepted, pending Polk County's appeal of Hanson's ruling to the Iowa Supreme Court, County Attorney John Sarcone said.
