I sent the paperwork to my lawyer last week on the August 15th, my lawyer sent the packet overnight to the vermont service center. I keep checking the mail and my bank account, (nothing yet!), and from a lot of the post that I read Vermont is the quickest. Should I be concerned? Any suggestions?

I would not really worry about it,seen as it is just a little over a week.

Yes Vermont is generally faster than California but even there, there has been delays too.

I would still wait a little and not really worry about it.

vermont is typically the fastest center, but at the moment both service centers are going at about the same speed...hopefully that will soon change, hopefully.

Some petitioners wait several weeks to receive their NOA1. hang in there, and try to be patient. Keep an eye on your account. Maybe the first thing you will notice will be the cashing of your check. Good luck to you and welcome to VJ.
