Does anyone who has traveled to Ghana or who lives in Ghana have any recommendations for a nice, CLEAN hotel in the Accra area? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd never stayed in a hotel in Ghana, but there are several nice guesthouses to choose from in Ghana. The one I stayed in was really nice and super clean. It had nice shiny tile floors, a huge spacious room, a bigger-than-king-size bed, a fan, air conditioning, cable tv with more than 100 channels, room service with breakfast, lunch and dinner, spacious bathroom with a shower and sink, etc. I cannot remember the name of it, though. I will have to call Ghana and ask my friends, but the price was about $30 a night. The only thing was it was in the Dansoman area of Accra, which wasn't close to the airport, but it wasn't terribly far, either. It had about 10 rooms and security guards with a security fence. A Ghanaian-American woman owns it. I want to say it's call "mama" or "mrs" something's guesthouse. I will let you know.

The one I most recently stayed at is called Penwood Hotel. It costs between $40-50 a night and is really clean. It is not too far from the airport (Tesano area) and they have a van that will take you places if you want.

The staff are really nice too :)

Girl, let me tell you that Frankies is the bomb. On the main street in Osu, they have a hotel a resteraunt with take away and a bakery on the street level, upstairs they have a main resteraunt (the fried crispy chicken is good) and on the second and third floor a hotel. Rooms will run you about $50.00 a day, but they also have a free full breakfast in the morning for hotel guest.

Try www.busuainn.com, that's a great spot on the beach, just outside of Accra...

I have finally met my love and my best friend... I can't thank God enough for this gift! After spending 17 days in Ghana with my love, I am even more consumed by him and all that he is.

Does anybody know anything about the Dutchotel Nshonaa or the Mahogany Lodge? They both got good review on www.tripadvisor.com. I just want to make sure I get a comfortable clean place as I'll be there for about a week. Nothing worse than an uncomfortable bed, ya know.

Ok, I found the name and website of the place I stayed. I was soooo off with the mama or mrs thing, lol, but I knew it sounded Arabic. Here it is:

How much is this place a night? I am loving the whole solar power thing. In Ghana even when they take the lights it is by a schedule, and not random so one does not mind so much. But this solar power thing sounds pretty cool.

Well, I thought it was $30, but my friend told me it was actually $35-39 a night. I was stranded so they paid for me, which is why I didn't know the true price. Anyway, from reading the site, I had the only "luxury king size room" because my bed was definately a king size. It actually seemed bigger than a king size. The place is extremely clean and comfortable. I will definately go back the next time I am in Ghana.

The lights were out once while I was there and it was for a total of about 15 mins. I was in that particular guesthouse for 6 days.
