In preparing my I-751 submission and the evidence for Bona Fide marriage, I saw the instructions specify affidavits by at least two people are required as evidence:

Quote

Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least two people who have known both of you since your conditional residence was granted and have personal knowledge of your marriage and relationship.  (Such persons may be required to testify before an immigration officer as to the information contained in the affidavit.)  The original affidavit must be submitted and also contain the following information regarding the person making the affidavit:  his or her full name and address; date and place of birth; relationship to you or your spouse, if any; and full information and complete details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge.  Affidavits must be supported by other types of evidence listed above.

Can someone shed light if this is a recent addition? The I-751 edition is stated as 4/1/2024, but I found forum topics mentioning Affidavits are not necessary that seem to be younger than that.

Some people choose to include them.  Some people don't.  They are not required.  The statement "Affidavits must be supported by other types of evidence listed above." tells me they are not strong evidence.  But, I don't see a problem either including or excluding them.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Most of us here divide evidence into two categories - strong and not-so-strong.

Strong evidence is: joint checking accounts, wills, mortgage/leases together, Health/House/renters/Auto insurance together, driver's licenses/utilities with the same address/both names (if possible), travel stubs (airline boarding passes/hotel reservations with both names).  These things say you live together, have a financial life together, do life together, and have planned for a future together.

Not-so-strong evidence is:  pictures, affidavits

Not every couple will have every type of evidence (and believe me, there are many more types you could include).  You must put together your "story" with pieces of paper that show you are "together".  For some, affidavits are the only thing they have to balance a lack of "strong evidence".

Best of luck on your journey.
