Arming The Iranian People Against The Mullahs Is The Dumbest Idea Ever

[...] the prospect of another ground conflict in the region is deeply unpopular with most Americans.  Such a move, if taken, would almost certainly tank President Donald Trump's already wavering approval rating, sink Republican prospects for the midterms and even 2028, and mar his legacy with a long Middle East war he promised to avoid.

In light of that, our other options are to continue the air and naval war alone without a ground element, or, as some have suggested, to begin arming the Iranian people (or other groups like the Kurds and Azerbaijanis) so they can overthrow the regime themselves.  Even if the U.S. stops its direct military actions against Iran in the coming weeks as Trump suggested, the administration could still arm and train Iranians to destabilize the regime from the inside.  [...]

Iran Is Losing This War, and the Global Balance of Power Is Shifting

We're approaching 60 days of the so-called Iran war, and we're still getting these loud voices that Donald Trump has failed, that the war's not going well.  It's completely nonempirical.  It's antithetical to the evidence.

Here we are at 60 days, and [...]

I lean against this -- in the peripheral provinces are too many separatists who would simply opt for separation (cf. the Kurds).  Maybe if we found a separatist element that would seize most of the oil, OK.  Hardest of all to get arms into Tehran/metro areas for a "spontaneous" guerrilla uprising.  Thoughts?

Is Trump Ready and Willing to Try Arming the Iranian People Again?

We still don't have many details about what happened the first time the Trump administration tried to deliver small arms to resistance groups inside Iran earlier this year, other than the president's comments that the guns never got to where they were going.  Still, President Trump appears to be willing to give it another go, based on remarks he made to Salem Media's Hugh Hewitt on Monday.  [...]

Uncomfortable as it may appear, I believe the only way to ensure that the desired outcome is achieved is to commit boots on the ground. I’m not talking full scale invasion. We need to eliminate the IRGC command structure, to a man, up close and personal.

Asymmetric warfare. Have the Iranian military chasing shadows, all the while deleting the leadership in a manner which is public, graphic and designed to demoralise the remaining military personnel to the point they desert in numbers sufficient to collapse what capability they have left.

Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war. ☠️

I've thought for some time that nothing substantial will be accomplished unless the IRGC is decimated (leaders & troops) and several dozen Shi'ite mullahs are incinerated in their mosques.  I think that the idea of Operation Economic Fury is valid, but it will take too long and won't last after Iran is rebuilt and the original offenders regain their moxie.  I wish that the Israelis would send pinpoint missiles where they need to go to hose the IRGC.

Missiles and drones are all well and good. They minimise friendly casualties and make for a very low-risk conflict. They are good for the news feeds, but they are also impersonal and make things like Operation Epic Fury look like nothing more than a video game.

What the oppressed peoples of Iran, and the world at large, need to see is death made personal. They need to see the fear in the eyes of the targets as justice is dealt to those animals responsible for butchering more than 30,000 of their own citizens this year alone. Not indiscriminate terror, such as the IRGC or their proxies would render. True fear, knowing that the Reaper has finally come for them in person.

Quite true, but the U.S. public won't stand for it.  And door-to-door searches for the targets equals dead Americans, which neither the public nor Pres. Trump want.
