Hi all,

I filed an I-130 for my husband in June 2025. Current estimated time to approval is 17 months per USCIS dashboard and then we would need to go through NVC, embassy interview, etc. so I imagine total time to approval for a green card and to come to the US is more than a year. I have an opportunity to accept a job in Europe and move abroad on a work visa and be with my husband while awaiting processing of the I-130. I have seen forums and information that once approved, his application can sit at the NVC for up to 2 years before it would be relinquished, I suppose. I believe I would also need to update USCIS if I move and provide them with my new address abroad. Please note I plan to maintain my home in the US and rent it out, as well as maintaining other assets state side so we have proof of domicile and intent to return to the US in a couple year's time. Is there anything else I am not aware of that could potentially impact his I-130 approval or visa application in general?

Appreciate any information or resources anyone can provide or point me to.

Thanks so much

So you are going for a year, should not be an issue. Europe of course does not issue work visas, Countries do.

Hi,

Right. I am not specifying the country out of privacy, but I am aware it is the individual country that issues the visa. If I move forward with the job and relocating, we expect to be there somewhere between 2-4 years, or within the parameters that we can relax over the processing time but still obtain the green card based on our initial I-130 (i.e. not dropping the ball at the NVC and having to start over).

You are going to try and spin out the process?
