I-751 Correction — Left Out U.S. Citizen Child

Hi everyone,

 

I filed my I-751 (divorce + abuse waiver) but forgot to list my U.S. citizen daughter (born Jan 2025) in Part 5. At the time, I thought only children applying for a green card needed to be listed. She was born after I left my ex-husband and has no connection to him.

 

My lawyer said I should wait until an interview or an RFE to explain and submit her birth certificate. But I’ve read that some people upload a correction letter + birth certificate under “Other” in their USCIS account to fix it right away.

 

Has anyone done this before? Is it safer to correct it now or wait like my lawyer suggests? Or is there any other way anyone suggests?

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Not sure how likely you are to be interviewed.

 

Divorce waiver is the simplest option, in my mind throwing abuse in complicates matters unless you want to naturalise earlier.

 

I would be inclined to at least send in an Errata sheet. But you have a Lawyer, no one here is a Lawyer.
