🆘 Expired K-1 Visa Application – Due to System Migration Issues (AVITS) – Need Advice or Similar Experiences

Hello everyone,

I’m hoping someone here can help or share a similar experience. My K-1 visa application has unfortunately been marked as “Expired” on the CEAC portal, and I’m devastated.

Case Info:

  • Case Number: REDACTED (U.S. Embassy in Dakar, Senegal)

  • Case Created: April 17, 2024

  • Case Last Updated / Expired: June 11, 2025

I never received any email or official reminder that the case was nearing expiration, and I had repeated trouble accessing or booking an interview on the new AVITS system (usvisaappt.com) after the system migration from usvisa-info.com.

I opened multiple support tickets on AVITS, followed their instructions, and did everything I could — but the system still didn’t recognize my payment or allow me to book an appointment. Now CEAC shows my case as expired and says it has been destroyed unless I can prove the delay was beyond my control.

📝 What I’m Trying to Do:

  • I’m planning to request a case reinstatement directly from the U.S. Embassy in Dakar, explaining that the delay was due to technical/system migration issues outside my control.

  • I also want to ask other users here:
    ❓Has anyone had similar issues with the new AVITS site?
    ❓Were you able to get your case reinstated successfully?
    ❓Any advice on what helped your case get reconsidered?

It would be helpful if you properly completed your VJ timeline so that we could see all the associated dates in your case.  What is the date for the approval of the I-129F (NOA2)?  When was it in "Ready" status at CEAC?  It appears the consulate no longer has the case.  Normally, the consulate can (and does) extend approved petitions for 4 month increments up to a year. It appears your case was at DOS longer than a year.  I hope you can revive this one.  Good luck

 

Edit:  Has the US citizen contacted their US Congressperson or Senator?  The message says you HAD the chance to re-instate the case, but you failed to do so.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

What actions has the US citizen undertaken to fix this situation?  A year at DOS prior to an interview is way, way too long.

At this point, I would certainly get my Senator's office involved.  They should be able to, at least, get a response from the consulate, as to what, if anything, can be done.
