It was 4 weeks from the date on the appt letter, this was last year though so may not be as relevant now.

I had my medical today, it was very straightforward and all of the staff at the clinic were really friendly and professional. I got my second MMR jab, which was a relief as it saves on paperwork further down the line, and the physical examination was very quick and painless.

All in all, a pleasant outing in London, and nothing to be worried about! Now to wait for my interview date...

It really is pretty easy, even with a condition/medication and needing extra jabs.

The most exciting thing that happened to me was almost walking right into Eddie Izzard twice while I was looking for the clinic.

Completed my medical today, very simple and quite painless, although the doc was a bit rough taking bloods ... Had surgery a month ago, I just took a doctors report and that was sufficient.

Doctors are usually the worst in taking blood. Nurses are gentler, and blood techs, who do it all day long, are the best at it.

No. Doesn't really fall into the categories of infectious disease, mental illness, self-harm, alcohol addiction, illegal drug use...the more common reasons for being inadmissable to the USA. If it causes high blood pressure, you could be asked to get info from your GP about your history of hypertension. Or they may just give you a little doctor lecture telling you it's unhealthy.

I didn't think it would. I'm 17 stone and losing weight at the moment. Just wanted to be certain. Never had high blood pressure or anything medical.

Totally off topic-- I still don't get that stone measurement. Why don't people weigh in pounds? Do your scales have stone marks instead of pounds or kg?

Just the way it is here lol. 14lb = 1 stone. And our scale has both stones and lbs.

I was overweight with white-coat hyper-tension last summer when I had my medical in London. The first reading was above the allowed level - I think the level is 150/95 or so. I asked the doctor if I could be allowed to sit quietly in an office and have it taken again in 30 minutes. By that stage, I had calmed down and my blood pressure was 148/94 and I passed.

I was in hospital 3 months ago with a chest infection and fluid on right lung and my blood pressure was perfectly normal. It always has been thankfully, always slightly low if anything but that's normal for me.

If you've recently had a chest infection that required hospitalisation, I assume you have all that information to take with you to the medical? You will have a chest x-ray.

Yup, All the info was on the discharge papers. Including blood test results and what meds they gave me. I kept all that thankfully.

Hi All,

My medical was today and here is a brief timeline to help with the nerves....

Appointment was at 9.10am but arrived at 8.50am.

Asked for passport, police certificate, inoculation record and 1 UK size photo on arrival.

Sent to waiting room

Given a form in the waiting room similar to the medical questionaire to fill out with the usual yes/no answers and it is very straight forward to complete. I did not have to sign it. (I should have been given this when I arrived).

Called for a routine chest x-ray and asked to strip from the waist up which was not a problem.

Sent to waiting room again.

Called into examination room by a nurse to review my vaccination record which was up too date (I followed the London specific instructions on VJ)

Sent back to waiting room.

Called in by Doctor (female) and asked about drink, drugs and medical history as I put down that I had been hospitalised. Given a physical examination including the wedding vegetables, blood test, and blood pressure. Height and weight was not checked but reflexes were. Had to sign a document which had my photo attached to it that I provided on arrival.

Sent back to waiting room

Called to front desk to pay, given back passport and police certificate and then left.

Was there roughly and hour and 10 minutes with no issues......
