Never heard of such.  Did they actually say that?  An engagement CEREMONY?  Could it be seen as a marriage ceremony?  Be aware that "too married for a K-1" is a real thing....at the consulate phase.

Yes they did. I’m not concerned about “too married” looks like we weren’t actually “engaged” long enough according to them. 😂

But hopefully this 7 months of waiting for the RFE will suffice for the time

It's the Consulate Officer you need to worry about...not USCIS.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

It clearly states it’s a letter of betrothal/ engagement

Use it at your own risk.  This is not a good time for any ambiguity in the world of US immigration.  Good luck.  I hope your journey is smooth.

I will because they actually requested it. In the RFE they stated that in Ethiopia it’s customary to have an engagement ceremony. When I initially filed we didn’t have anything other than pics, messages and intents. We met while I was on vacation in Ethiopia. But I went back to visit him in September and that’s when he proposed and we had the engagement  ceremony. So since they requested, and knew of Ethiopias engagement ceremony I don’t see why it would be a problem. It would seem more logical that it would help more than hurt, considering they asked for it in the RFE

wow i didnt know that they ever requested proof of relationship / intent to marry based on whats customary to the culture outside of the US. But its amazing that you have exactly what they want, I think that gives you great odds at appeasing them and getting approved. Ill look for your msg and contact info and reply via text/email when I can :)

Good luck....but remember this: USCIS doesn't issue visas.....the Consulate does.

It is strange that USCIS would do that.  USCIS is not normally concerned with proof of relationship other than proof of meeting within 2 years and intent to marry.  The Consulate, on the other hand, is a different story.

I know and understand this but USCIS is the one requesting the information. But what would be helpful is an answer to my initial question. I can do without all of your negativity and doubt and I don’t need the luck

I'm just relaying what I have seen over the last 10 years here on VJ.  Take it for what it's worth.  I wish you well in your future.

Thanks for the positively. Yes! When I read the RFE I was actually relieved because we had exactly what they were asking for. No outsourcing needed. But from what I’m witnessing on this journey that every application is different, and you just have to trust in The Most High and do your best. If it’s legit it will stand and work out for the good. I sent you my info. Praying for you and your fiancé to get good news soon

USCIS under Trump 2.0 is far more strict than is "normal".  Expect that if something is in the immigration law passed by Congress, explicit or implied, no matter how many decades ago, it will now be fully enforced.
