Yeah once you pick the immigration option you’ll go through and there’ll be a K visa option. It is confusing that it’s referred to as both non-immigrant and immigrant depending on the site.

None of the official government websites should mention K-1 as immigrant visa. It's clearly non-immigrant visa. The reason is, marriage within 90 days is condition to be eligible for adjustment of status.

Immigrant visas, like IR-1 are different. Once you enter the US on it, you're LPR automatically.

Yes that’s why it’s confusing. CEAC has the case under immigrant visa and communications from Dublin Consulate (through the immigrant visa unit) refer to Immigrant Visa. To make a K visa interview appointment in Dublin you also have to go through immigration visa option.

This is because for the documents needed, the medical exam and the interview purposes, the embassies treat K-1s as immigrant visas up until the point of visa issuance. Then the case is transferred to the nonimmigrant visa unit for the issuance of the visa. You will likely see the status in CEAC change to "Application Received" before it goes to "Approved" and then "Issued". This is because the NIV unit at the embassy has not seen or touched the application until the IV Unit transfers it to them. The application received means that they have put your DS-160 into their queue for processing and issuing the visa.

Congratulations 🎊🎊. So happy for you. If you don’t mind, kindly share your experience when you get settled.

I am still waiting for an interview date, fingers crossed.

Thank you!! My fiancé said it was the easiest part of this whole wild journey!

I added his walkthrough 🤗

“I arrived at the consulate, went through security, and locked away my personal items in the locker. After entering the main building, I waited in line and met two windows, one for submitting documents and one for the actual interview.”

(He said having our paperwork perfectly organized was a lifesaver. They asked for everything individually, and having them pre-sorted kept the process smooth. We all know that pressure of people behind us waiting their turn, so be prepared and organize your docs in the order they request.)

“They handed me a DVD with my medical exam results. After a short wait, they called my name to the interview window. The whole convo was done over an intercom (so yep, the room could hear everything 😅) but the officers were reassuring and kind. They asked where we met, how we met, and what U.S. address we’d be living at. I kept the answers short and honest.
After the questions, they told me I was approved and said I’d receive an email a few days later confirming that the packet is ready. They also reminded me not to open the sealed packet, it’s for U.S. Customs to open upon arrival in the States.”

He also noted that the online status portal showed “current status: interview” even after being approved. They told him this is normal and sometimes it’ll even say “denied,” but that’s just a system glitch, so don’t panic if you were told you’re approved.

The longest part of this process was waiting for the consulate to send the interview date. I hope yours comes through soon!

Congrats! I was approved too 😊

Just to add to experience above, mine was also really smooth and easy. I had a folder with tabs identifying each document so it was easy to pull out what I was asked for and it really did make things easier and the person at the first counter seemed to appreciate it. The interview was fine, he asked about how we met, how much we’ve seen each other and what the plans were for the wedding. Then we chatted a bit and it was like a casual conversation, nice and relaxed.

Later that day my status was changed to approved. And the following Monday was changed to Issued and I got the email saying my Visa was issued. I actually flew out on Friday to the US. The CBP officer looked at my envelope and asked if I was on a visa and I said yes a K1. She asked me if I had any food, alcohol, tobacco etc. She then brought me to the back room and I was called up within 5 minutes. The officer just asked my fiancé’s name and reminded me that we had to be married in 90 days, then stamped my passport. All in all it took no longer than 10 mins.

Hopefully you get your interview soon 🙂

Thank you for the feedbacks. My fiancé had his interview last Thursday and picked up his passport with the Visa today. He also said the interview was a breeze.
So glad we are all done with this phase, I wish everyone success.

ps: The embassy gave us less than 48 hours notice for the interview, we were in panic mode but glad everything worked out just fine.
