No we didn't. Myself, husband and my son were all in the room together. There were some questions repeated to us and some changed as I filled up incorrectly on the i485 and made aware and electronically signed. All 3 of us were asked different questions at different times.

This is what is worrying me. We got an interview for next month. 3 months after submitting AoS. I can't work yet and we didn't get around to my bank account or a joint one yet. Coz what's the point when I can't make my own income yet.

 

I'm on my husband's lease, insurances and such.

*This is not legal advice, but in chatting with estate/probate attorneys, they say that they make the most money straightening out messes from people who downloaded generic estate templates from random or general websites and tried to do their estate documents themselves.  If valid templates aren't available on your state's website, it's VERY well worth retaining an attorney to draft all these documents and to do it right.  Remember that if you have children or move to another state, it's prudent to review and re-draft your relevant estate documents.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We don't have any property, mortgage, auto loan, significant savings or assets to draft estate Wills and such. My husband met current income requirements for i-864 and added me to all medical, tax and insurance stuff.

Irony is during K1 we wished our application would get picked early but it didn't.... 2yrs for it all.

Now for AOS it got picked TOO damn early... before we could be ready.

 

I swear the gods are bored monkeys looking for entertainment at our expense.

If asked, explain that the idea occurred to you, you should've done it long ago, and you're relieved at the peace of mind that your new Durable (or Financial) and Medical powers of attorney give you.  :)   Draft one of each for the two of you, total of four documents.  Look on your state's website for PoA templates valid in your state.  These forms are crucial to have in "life."

I got approved without an interview or a joint bank account, different times though.

Got approved for ROC without joint bank accounts or being on the mortgage or the house

Got approved for the N400, still no joint bank accounts (also did not bring the wife to that interview)

 

Financial mingling may help a case but it is not a requirement for approval. Yeah, we were asked why things were done a certain way and we gave our reasons for it.  They are looking for a real relationship not a perfect match to a standard. Life is messy, things happen and people are different. your interview is just that an interview. They ask questions and are looking for the your truthful answers to those questions.
