Does anyone here advise this? I'll send in my I-129F package sometime next week. Do you think it is a good idea to get a letter of support from my representative? Thanks.

I fail to see what good it would do you, but if you want to take the time to contact him and wait for a response, go for it.

I'd rather just get the petition in the mail.

I agree with TracyTN.... I'd rather not hold up the process waiting for a letter from a representative.

I doubt that will make any difference anyways. Your package will still have to go through the usual processing just like everybody else's.

Good luck.

I guess to have him support or endorse my petition?

Jim Quan,

What kind of support are you thinking, or expecting, that your representative might be able to give?

The only reason to get a congressman's involvement is to deal with an unusual immigrations problem.

A few things to be prepared for.

  • It can take up to 6 months for USCIS to process the I-129F, you can call them but the standard answer is to wait the 6 months.
  • It takes up 2 weeks for cases to transit from USCIS to NVC after NOA2, calling NVC will result in case not received yet.
  • NVC tends to take up to 4 weeks to process and then send off to the consulate.
  • Your particular consulate "Guangzhou" takes up to 4 months to "receive" the case after NVC sends it to them, hold up at Chinese customs, and then storage in a warehouse.
  • When GUZ receives the case and sends out P3, the turn around is 1 month after your SO returns the DS-230 and OF-169
  • Interview is usualy 1 month or so after they send out P4

I Highly recommend you join "A Candle for Love" they have the most info to prepare for the eventual interview at the Gauntlet known as Guangzhou.

Jim Quan,

You did not address the question, you simply repeated what you had already written. So I ask again - what kind of "support", what do you mean by "endorse"? What, specifically, are you looking for from your representative? What, specifically, do you want him to do for you?

Let me try asking another way. You've read the instructions for the I-129f petition, you've read the VJ Guides and Visa FAQ, you've read numerous threads on VJ discussing the I-129f petition - how can your representative help you to document the things that you need to demonstrate to the USCIS?

I guess to have him support or endorse my petition?

Yodrak,

I was not sure but just thinking it loud. After reading the postings here, I think I will concentrate on preparing the I-129F package and leave everything else to god.

Thank you all for your inputs.

Good idea, if your case was simple like ours, you wont have problems to worry about.

Again check out http://candleforlove.com there is no better place to prepare for the interview in Guangzhou, as well as the unique culture issues of Chinese/American relationships.

If you have enough sway and influence that you can obtain a letter of support from your congressman within a week, I say go for it! :innocent:

But if not, then follow the guides, FAQ and advice of VJ and just put it in the mail!

Good luck!!

If you wish to use the letter of support to overcome some lack of evidence or documentation a letter of "support" from your congressperson will not do this. If you have all the required evidence and documentation then a letter from your congresspeerson will not validate or perfect anything you already have.

YMMV
