not even reading the BS! just another love/hug the law breaking illegals post from an enabler.

question for all enablers: can you name 1 crime that the perpetrator gets to keep the proceeds of their illegal activity?

answer: no

Yes. Lying under oath if you're the President.

Clinton & the humidor or white water?

Only half about half of the illegal immigrants snuck across. The rest got here the legal way, they just didn't go home when they should have.

what color is the sky in you're world dan?

Dan's right. Only just over half are EWI. The rest are overstays or people who fell out of status (students who dropped out.) Not everyone came through Mexico.

Interesting read, especially how opportunities like home ownership seem to drive people to get ITINs.

As long as they're here, it's in everyones best interests that they not be forced to live underground. Their participation in our economy is a good thing.

Which dispels the myth that they're presence here is like that of a leech.

I know you love stereotypes of the typical illegal immigrant, crossing the border and cutting through fences. Makes good material for the conservative talk shows as well as rhetoric for builders who specialize in fences. But in our blue sky world, its not quite what you think.

If you keep them underground, then yes - they're more leachlike. But let them deposit their money in our financial institutions, let them take advantage of many of the fine financial products our economy has to offer, and they become contributors - not leeches. When one person produces and another consumes, both benefit.

All this article is saying is, make it easier for them to produce and consume - iow, embrace them, don't vilify them.

Ideally, the government would be able to enforce it. But it's not business' place to do so, and I think we're better off when new immigrants regardless of status can own homes and put their money in a bank instead of being homeless or cramming into rentals and keeping the money under mattresses. Or starting their own non-FDIC insured banks and underground economies.

charles, wiki puts EWIs at just over half, as does NPR. The numbers are probably all a little off since we really have no reliable way of counting who is here, but if the estimate's are saying about 45% are legal entry, chances are it's not 90% 'border jumpers.'

I do not embrace them. I do not villify them. I want our laws enforced. Send them home. Deportation is the answer.

...we really have no reliable way of counting

You mean we don't have minutemen with clickers sitting at the border keeping count?

Would be pretty funny. And they'd undercount by half.

Yes, let's send home people who work hard and, if given a chance, could make a real net positive contribution to our economy.

Do you know how high the foreclosure rate is in LA county? Yes, let's reduce the size of the buyer pool a little more by clamping down on "no-ssn" mortgages.

And while you're at it, please cut off your nose to spite your face. It's only fitting.

Even a better idea comes to mind...instead of forcing them underground or letting them live as normal "Americans" do, just send them home...let our economy collapse...we let this get out of control and sooner or later there is going to have to be a stop to it...although it can't be completely stopped, illegal immigration is not good. Just live in El Paso, where the vehicle accidents with "no insurance" are triple that of nonborder cities. The Home Depot is never empty of potential "cheap labor". Sorry, but i am very bitter about living here. I really did not care about it before, however living here has opened my eyes to the real world that we live in.
