My fiance and I will be getting married in the near future. What is necessary to help ensure that some of his out of country relatives are able to visit for the wedding? I know that they can take our wedding invitation to the embassy as proof for a visa. Anything else? One more thing ... will I have to submit an Affidavit of Support, etc? :help:

Thanks.

They would need to apply for a visa at the U.S. embassy in their country. They need to show ties to their country such as a good job and property. Good luck

Thanks. Will I need to mail anything other than the wedding invitiation? ie., tax forms, etc.,etc

You are not the issue... they do not want anything that pertains to you. They are the issue... the issue is whether or not they have the necessary substantial ties that would require them to return to their home country at the end of thier visit.

Since they now have a substantial tie to the US (your fiancee), getting a visa to be able to visit the US will be much harder that when there was no tie. Have them bring substantial evidence of their need to return to Cambodia such as financial reocrds, house deeds, and employment records. But don't be surprised or dissapointed if they get denied.

Color me confused. Does this type of 'evidence' only pertain to certain countries? Because I know we can cross the boarder to go to a wedding, a vacation...whatever with no need to prove anything.

Certain countries use the VWP (Visa Waiver Programme), so you don't need to go to the US Embassy to receive a holiday visa. Ireland use the VWP, as do the UK and a few others I think.

03.04.2009......Posted I-130 to U.S. Embassy

03.04.2009......Ordered Police Certificate for Visa Purposes from Local Garda Office (ordered over the phone)

03.05.2009......I-130 received at Embassy

03.06.2009......Received Police Cert

03.18.2009......I-130 Approved

09.10.2009......Medical Exam

09.23.2009......Embassy receives Notice of Readiness

10.13.2009......Received our interview date

10.29.2009......Successful interview!

11.5.2009........Visa received in post

11.7.2009........All the family flew to the US together :)

12.24.2009......10 year Greencard received in the mail

I agree with zyggy, the embassy is more concern about the person applying for a visa not the person inviting them. Their strong ties that needs to establish that after the wedding they are going to go back to the country of origin. Job certification, tax returns, bank statements,etc..etc.

Well let's hope and pray for the best...

cristy,

"Certain" countries? Try most countries.

Canada is a very special and unusual case, and there are only a dozen or so VWP countries where most citizens do not need visas, but it's a big world out there.

Cameroon is not Canada, nor is it a VWP country.

I have seen many people denied over the last 2 years when trying to come to the u.s. for a wedding , i think it all goes back to the same criteria as getting a tourist visa .The person needs to prove they are not a risk to stay and they need to return for family , home , business or strong financial ties to their home country .good luck .

Boaz,

You cannot ensure.

The wedding invitation will be useful to document the reason for the proposed trip, an important aspect of obtaining a B visa, but there are other more essential considerations.

One consideration, which zyggy and others have pointed out, is that the people must be able to convince the consular officer processing their visa application (and the CBP officer at the POE should they be given the visa) that they will leave the USA after the wedding.

Another consideration is, can they people afford the proposed visit to the USA? This is one area where you may be able to help if any of the people are deficient - but how many people can you sponsor given your available financial resources? If you do offer to sponsor anyone, you very well may be asked to submit an I-134 to document that you have sufficient financial resources to sponsor the person.

Perhaps you could arrange to have a small wedding reception/party at some point in Cameroon instead.

Good luck!

Conditions Removed! Ten-year green card received 6/24/2009. No more USCIS for a very long time.
