We'll be traveling after filing I-751

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

Basically, in 2021, we had our original green card interview in State 1, but then we moved (and filed the address change) to State 2.

It's time now to fill out I-751, however starting in about 1.5 months, we will be traveling back to State 1, and my wife's home country, and possibly a third state. It'll be a 3-month trip away from State 2 (our current home state).

Any ideas how to approach this?

I imagine the options are:

- inform them BEFORE that we will be traveling and request interview in State 1 (but how?)

- inform them AFTER we get the appointment

- file an address change back to State 1 along with I-751

Thanks for any tips.

Your residence is state 2 and that is likely where your interview will be.

None of the above.

When people file I-751 they receive a 48 month extension letter.

You do not have to inform anyone of your planned travels because you will more than likely be maintaining ties to State 2 (and keeping your home in State 2).

And will be back in US state 2 before anything meaningful happens.

If things stay the same with I751 processing times, your wife will only receive notice of an interview late 2024 or early 2025.

You only have to inform USCIS if you move permanently.

Make sure your wife has her extension letter when she travels back to her home country. I assume her GC will expire while she is out of the country.

@Rocio0010 is a pro at traveling with extension letter.

1. Pack your bags, make sure you lock the house.

2. If you have any pets, do take them with you at least within the States.

None of the above.

Just submit the application when the time comes, with the address in State 2. Send it with proof of delivery. Travel with your extension letter. Then, continue to live your life because you won’t
