Hello there,

I am presently working my way through filling out my AOS Form I-864 and am getting stuck on a few (potentially trivial) things and was seeking clarification please.

For starters, in the Form I-864 instructions, it states, "If your answer to a question which requires a numeric response is zero or none (for example, “How many children do you have” or “How many times have you departed the United States”), type or print “None,” unless otherwise directed." Does this include parts where it asks me not applicable A-numbers or USCIS Online Account Numbers for nonexistent additional 'Family Members'?  I.E. - for Part 3. 7 & 8, do I put "None" or N/A" since I am only sponsoring my wife and no one else? Am I overthinking this part? Is the NVC as strict with their "everything must be filled out 100% perfectly" rules as the USCIS?

Additionally, for Part 6, line 7: are they asking me to input my current individual annual income as of last year? Or do I put what I am making now, taking into consider my modest but most recent salary bump? I only ask this as I work a part time job additionally on Saturdays and can only 'ball park' what that particular job's annual income will yield as I occasionally miss a week here and there. In other words: is a rough, but fairly accurate and truthful, individual annual income "guesstimation" sufficient?

And lastly (for now), for Part 7. use of Assets to Supplemental Income, I definitely exceed the Federal Poverty Guidelines for my household size. Just put 'N/A/ in all the non-applicable boxes even though they are mostly asking for numerical values?

Thank you emphatically in advance for feedback and insight!

Best,

Michael

Kind of confusing questions.  Try following the step by step instructions.  Last year is NOT CURRENT.  Calculate your current income using the gross for a full pay period times the number of pay periods in a full year.  If your first job shows you well qualified, ignore the part time income.

Use some common sense dealing with things that are not applicable.  Enter "Not applicable" once in a section and leave the rest blank.  Same goes for "none".  Note that some questions ARE applicable even though the answer is none.

Thank you for your reply. I received an RFE on my I-130a previously for leaving boxes blanks, hence why I'm extra wary of leaving *anything blank moving forward. For boxes like A-numbers and USCIS Online Account Numbers that do not apply though -- just right 'N/A', you think?

You will not find any actual spaces that will accept typing N/A.  You can type Not Applicable.  For boxes asking for A numbers etc. type all zeros.  NONE is also an acceptable answer.  For example, when asked about the beneficiary's family, if none or no more after one or two, typing NONE once in the first applicable space, is certainly OK.  There are other spaces that are rendered inoperable by having checked a box preceding them.  That's why I recommend some common sense.

Despite carefully (re)reading the directions, I'm still a little confused on how to properly upload my I-864 and federal tax return to the NVC. For the I-864, I have to fill it all out by hand, scan and save to a PDF and then upload? I cannot sign online? For my federal tax return, I filed but it hasn't posted to the IRS website just yet. I went through H&R Block over a month ago. Do I just save a PDF of my 2022 return from the H&R Block website and send the NVC that? Do I resave (edit) it as  a PDF to *just send them my federal taxes and not the whole thing?

Thank you in advance,

Michael

Affidavit filled in the PDF on computer or by hand.  Print, sign, upload.

Upload the PDF of your complete Federal Tax return, including W2 and 1099 forms.  How you do that logistically is up to you, in terms of whether your federal and state is in the same pdf.  Your W2 and 1099 forms would not be in the HRB pdf already, so they must be added.

Thank you for your response! So a scanned copy of the signature will obviously suffice then?

May be another daft follow-up question but — W2 and 1099 forms can be seperate files from federal tax return upload?  Thank you.

How do I upload my documents (AOS and tax return for example) as one PDF if I’m scanning it at home individually page by page? Just upload multiple submissions? Thank you.

You can usually scan a multiple pages document by changing the settings of your scanner/software you use to scan.

Alternatively, you can merge documents.

As lemonslice said, change setting to scan a multiple page document.  If you cannot learn (use google) how to do this, take it to a UPS Store, or FedEx Office etc. and ask them to do it for you.  This is a tech question, not an immigration question.  Doing this process yourself, required computer skills.

Fair. Roger that; thank you. I need to upload my W2's AND 1099's OR just one or the other? Not sure I have any 1099's; only W2's. Thank you.

You cannot upload what never existed.  In this case the use of the word "and" means "if applicable".  Some have one or the other but many have both.

I see. Thank you for clarifying. Another previous petitioner suggested it might also be good to upload three of my most recent paystubs. Is this prudent to do or only necessary if prompted? Thank you.

One most recent is what you need as evidence of your current income.  You'll notice your pay stub shows year to date income, right?
